5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I purchased a 2007 Camry XLE V6 in June 2006. In October I noticed an intermittent squeak in the rear supsension when driving on uneven surfaces. The dealership couldn't recreate the problem of course and it is driving me crazy..
Yeah, straight up. I'm having the same problem, I only hear it sometimes when going over Large speed bumps (the ones that are 3-6 feet long). I think I found it happens more when I go fast over those particular types of bumps. It's like a loud creaking noise from the rear almost like a scraping noise. At first I thought there was something under my car scraping the ground but I carefully inspected underneath and it looked normal. My car isn't lowered either.
I tried opening the trunk and jumping up and down to see if it was the springs or something, but I didn't get any noise out of it. (I did get a few funny stares from ppl in the parking lot though).
I didn't take it to the dealership though, not yet at least. If it gets worse I may have to get them to look at it.

There is a TSB from Toyota concerning a "tick" in the rear suspension, I wonder if the squeak could be related to this. You might want to mention the TSB to your service advisor. A copy of all of the TSB's that have been issued are posted on the top of page 1 in this fourm.

Very interesting. Mine also happens over speed bumps and dips in the road. I did the exact same thing as you to attempt to replicate the noise. I even removed the spare tire and jack and had my son jump up and down in the trunk. I took it to the dealership and they greased the rear bushings but the problem only went away for one month. I found a TSB through this site (SU006-06) that may relate to the problem. It refers to customers complaining about a tick in the rear suspension. Mine is a squeak not a tick but it may be the same thing. Thanks for responding as I don't feel that I am alone any longer and have some ammo to use when I go to the dealership again.
I have also heard this intermittent sound, will suggest they look at the sway bar/bushings on my next service. I would like a more permanent fix than some monthly lube.

Anybody else experiencing this problem??
Was experiencing the same problem with my mom's 09 camry i4, wasn't able to replicate it when I got to the dealer however (isn't this always the case....) anyways, the technician was aware of some TSB about that, and ordered new exhaust pipes and gaskets, the parts are going to come in next week so hopefully that takes care of the problem, will keep y'all posted.
I have that same problem and if I take it to the dealer, I'm 500% sure that they'll blame my eibach springs, wheels, tires, strut bar, SRI and HID for it.
I'm just gonna jack up the car and spray some white lithium grease on the bushings and the surrounding area, that grease cured my front springs noise, so maybe it'll work for the rear problem.
