Need help!! (Courtesy Light & LED's)

well here's the situation:
i tried to install LED's that turn on when u open ur driver/passenger door. And to do this, i "planned" on mounting it to the courtesy light's power(red) and ground(orange w/ silver stripes)... Well i discovered the constant power wire underneath the door sill but i could not find the power wire to the courtesy light. Now don't get me wrong, i know which plug in the foot panel goes to the courtesy light, but that red wire was not giving off any voltage (with the door open of course). I tried mounting the LED's power wire w/ the constant power wire and grounded it. This worked but would not turn off when the door was closed (hence the discovery of the constant power wire ) . I decided to do this another day because it was too hot outside, so i connected all the wires back together the way they were before and now the courtesy lights do NOT work both driver and passenger sides.... If you guys could give ur input of what i forgot to do that would be very helpful... thanks

im assuming you didnt connect the battery since u needed it to be connected to check for voltage... sooo, have u checked your fuses? maybe you accidentally touched an exposed wire to a piece of metal and shorted the fuse.. thats always the first place to look..
