XM Satellite Radio

On my radio, there is a button called "Satellite". I understand that this is for XM. I have a XM unit. What is the Satellite button for? Is there an XM radio already installed in my 2006 Solara?

Well there's two ways of installing satellite radio...be it XM or Sirius.

One way is the clean, proper way. This means wiring the tuner behind the dash, and using the stock radio's controls supposing it is SAT-ready.

The other way, also known as the ugly way...is to buy one of the external separate radios or receivers. Then you use an FM modulator to feed a radio signal to your stock radio. Or you can plug into your stock radio's input port if it has one. Keep in mind, you have to find a way to mount that ugly aftermarket receiver somewhere.

Anyway, if your radio has a Satellite button, and you have the proper installation (option 1), then it will switch the play mode to satellite radio.

If you have the ugly installation (option 2), then the Satellite button on your radio will not do anything.
