Gen5 Cracked Windshield, HELP ME!

I've got a cracked windshield, somehow. I honestly dont know. When i changed my wiper blades i notice it. It started out as a small spider web crack and then it just got bigger...So I found out my deductible is around 500 bux.. Now would it probably be cheaper to just buy the windshield and have someone install it? I also have the antenna in my windshield. so that would prolly cost a pretty penny woulddn't it? If so, I could try to do a s2000 conversion...SOMEONE HELP ME!

Um... in the Gen 5, the antenna is on the rear windshield.

What is an S2000 conversion? I mean, I know what an S2000 is...but what relation does it have to a Camry?

^On the Gen 3's, people have taken the short S2000 antenna and retrofitted them onto their cars instead of their stock antenna.

I forgot to mention about that. You can't do an S2000 conversion on a Gen 5.

^Thats about right. My brother cracked the windshield on his A4 THREE times. He caught a rock on 3 seperate occasions on the same highway all within a year. Each time cost him around $400, but thats because he got it done at the dealership and stuff. If you have a shop do it, should be around $300 or so.

I have a cracked windshield as well. It's been a bit over 2 years since I've had it and still didn't change it. I've gotten a estimated cost of $280 with the person coming over to install the windshield at your house. Now, this is a aftermarket windshield. If I opted for the OEM one, it'll cost me an additional $300 just because there's a "Toyota" logo on it, but it's the same windshield from the same aftermarket company that makes them.

Call your insurance. Many insurances-- when you pay full coverage, will pay to replace the windshield without worrying about the deductible.

I would suggest upon replacing the windshield and once the new one is installed in order to help protect and prevent future cracks, just try to place some protective clear 3M tape around the edges on the sides, top, and if possibe the bottom. just a narrow band to help against those little pebbles that hit the edge and then create a long line running across the glass.

$500 is petty cash. I wouldn't report it to the insurance. While comprehensive claims won't raise your monthly rates, those claims WILL be reported. So when you go to sell your car, people will see all the claims.

It's better to pay the $500 and keep a clean record.

Now, if you had roof+hood+sunroof damage like me which amounts to $7100, then insurance is the way to go. That amount is too high to cover on your own. $500 is nothing.

I'm not paying anything...So it does'nt matter.. I don't really care if it's on my record...It's an act of god (rock) cracked and that's it...NEW YORK STATE WAIVER! I GET FIXED FOR FREE!

AND FOR YAZOVETS! 500 is a lot of money to me, since i'm still a fulltime college student and working fulltime and still paying for my car...SO IF 500 isn't nothing to you, why don't you just send me 500 and will call it a good deed from a good Samaritan then call it a day!
