^ That's what the remote looks like. I like it - it looks like the factory remote on my gen 5.5. How many of you guys got an aftermarket alarm installed? I have been putting it off but I found some scratches on my hood. I think it's from a cat but the other night a lady was walking around my car looking inside it - in the 30 seconds it took for me to run downstairs and get to my car, she was gone.
Anyway.. Here's the price breakdown and options:
$299 - alarm [installed]
$0 or $45 (depends, they have to see when they get my car in) - progressive unlocking
$35 - domelight supervison
$25 - horn honk
$35 - hood pin
$65 - backup battery/siren
$0 or ?? - trunk release
They're also running a promo for 10% off so that's not bad. This place installed my mom's alarm and when one of the remotes died a few years later, they replaced it free of charge. They do good work too, we've had no problems.
I'm definitely going to add progressive unlocking and trunk release. Maybe the hookup to the horn too.. Any suggestions?

Progressive unlocking is like how the factory keyless entry is set up. You press unlock once, the driver's door unlocks. Press it again and the rest of the doors unlock. I like it - I park in a parking structure every day and it's too easy for someone to hide by the back door on the other side and hop in if all the doors unlock at the same time.

I also have a viper alarm. It's the Viper 791xv. I got it for $350 installed w/ hood pin and the sequential door lock i think, also trunk release when pressing AUX. What's the sequential door lock? Pressing the button once for driver door and twice for the other doors?
Edit: Hmm, somehow 2 posts showed up while i was posting. amazing lol
actually, i dunno how the alarm can detect a cat crawling on your car... unless u get a proximity sensor. My car even suffered a bumper scratch hit and run and the alarm didn't go off, think i should turn up the sensitivity.
ahh ok gotcha.. i figured that would be already an option but i guess not.. i really like that fob though, it looks cool!
I like the remote too.. I didn't care for those cheesy fake carbon fiber remotes that Clifford has. I also specifically wanted dedicated lock/unlock buttons. Makes it easy to just press lock again if I'm not sure - with the one button lock/unlock you might be unlocking your car without knowing.
I'm entertaining the thought of one of the Viper 'responder' setups.. But ouch, $600!

Yeah, I'm guessing it won't do anything about the cats - but seeing that lady peering into my car [as if she was looking for a blinking light for an alarm] spooked me.
Definitely adjust the sensitivity of your alarm! Just play with it, see how sensitive you can make it without being annoying to your neighbors. The newer Viper alarms allow you to adjust sensitivity via the remote. I think that's neat.

I would have just hit the PANIC button when she got too close, she'd be to occupied with changing her droors to bother with the car!!
Doesn't the dash have a flashing light from the factory? Mine does.
BTW - Do viper alarms still say that corny-ass "Protected by viper, stand back"?
She's actually the one who feeds the cats in the back of our street. Maybe she saw a cat fall off my car or something . It's pretty slick since I keep it polished. What a funny thought..
And I know! I thought about pressing the panic button after the fact. I guess I was more suspicious than anything and my mind focused in on parking as fast as I could and getting to my car. Well, at least now I'll have an alarm.. Still entertaining the thought of the 2-way pager alarm though!
I'm not sure what the stickers say now. But my mom's (from 5-7 years ago) is a black sticker glossy sticker with silver lettering that says "VIPER" - guess I'll find out what the new stickers say this weekend!

i have the viper 160 XV... and progressive unlocking is very easy to install. its simply the attachment of a second wire to the unlock wires... so hopefully they won't charge you $45 for such a simple task

That seems a bit expensive. I have a 2-way alarm and that was the same as yours installed and this included a hood pin switch.
That system should come with a siren so you should not need to do horn honk, unless you want it. Horn honking instead of the siren gets annoying quick, especially if you live in a quiet area.
