Gen6 need input on tires that I am considering

I am looking to buy some new tires. I wore mine out doing some curve hugging. The ones I am considering are Kumho Ecsta asx's---Hankook Ventus V4 Es's---or Toyo Proxes TPT. If you have had any experience with these, good or bad please chime in and let me know. This will help me decide what to get. Thanks.

The Proxes 4 are not a step "up" in their line. They are merely performance all-seasons. Ditch the compromise all-seasons and get some proper summer rubber.

There is no excuse for not running winter tires in the winter...if you run all-seasons during that season you are asking for trouble because there is NO all-season tire that can give you the control which even a cheap winter tire does.

Some people don't need to swap out tires for the winter.

Sure, I'm aware of exceptions like the American desert region, Florida and California. But just because your are doesn't get snow, doesn't mean winter tires aren't the way. They help with slippery conditions - ice, black ice, sleet, etc.

i believe if you like in an area with any wort of snow season, you must use winter tires, and since you have the winter tires and need to swap for summer, you might as well go for summer tires, i was never one for "all season" i swapped my all season right away when i recieved my car, i had drove on them for like 20 km till i reach my tire guy to have them taken off...

my example... for "all season"... when u wash your car, do you use regular detergent (all season) thats meant for anything from dishwashing liquid to laundry detergent? or car wash soap? each product is made specially for their use... hence summer for summer, and winter for winter tires...

I can definately say get TOYOs Hands Down!!

I have the Toyo Proxes TPT on my 98 ES300... I'm on my second set ... it's a great tire, good all-season performance, nice light snow traction, and GREAT Treadwear! I've put 65000 miles + on the first set before needing a replacement!

As for the Toyo Proxes 4, I can also say that so far its a great tire ... I have not had as much experience with these as I have had with the Proxes TPT, as I just put these tires on recently, whep I swapped out for new 18" rims on the 07 Camry ... but so far ... me likey!

I'm going to disagree here, we get A TON of snow in Colorado and all I have ever had was all-season. They do great. I may try out winter and summer times seperately in the future, which may prove that I'm wrong. But right now, everything is fine with all-season

I noticed your tire's diameter is much smaller than stock:

215/55/17 = 26.31" diameter
245/35/18 = 24.75" diameter (~1.6" or 6% smaller)

How does it look? Any issues with the smaller diameter? Did you lower the car?

I thought the "rule" is to not change overall diameter by more than 3%.

I do not dispute the point that with all-seasons you WILL get through winter. Yes, you will. But if you ever spend 1 winter with winter tires, I would bet that chances are you will not ever again wear all-seasons in the future during that season.

Every tire type has its advantages. That's why the various kinds exist to begin with. Some, or most, people are content with all-seasons.

I like to retain a good stopping distance during the winter, so you'll never see all-seasons on a car that I operate in the winter.

In the same way, some people go crazy for summer performance tires. I generally don't do any performance driving which would bring the car to its tires' limits, but some people do...and they buy the special rubber for that. Scientifically and statistically proven, each tire kind is SUPERIOR to ANY all-season for that given season.
