Gen6 2007 Camry ABS Noisy?

I searched by couldn't find comments specific to the 2007 Camry (I found a discussion about ABS Pulsing on the Hybrid forum, but their braking system may be different than ours).

We didn't have a lot of snow this past winter, so the ABS didn't activate much. But I remember when I intentionally tested the ABS by braking hard on snowy surface, it was loud and clunky. VSC, on the other hand, was virtually silent. I'd see the VSC light flash when I try to fish-tail on snow, but don't hear anything. But the ABS is loud!

Is this normal for the 07 Camry? The people on the Hybrid forum are saying they can hardly feel the ABS.

I dont have a Gen6, but mine also makes a fairly loud sound when the ABS kicks in, sounds just like how you describe it.

I can hardly feel mine. (I have a hybrid)

On the other hand, hybrid versions come with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), traction control, and stability control... so even when I slam on the brakes in snowy conditions, the abs really doesn't kick in... the other stuff seems to do most of the work instead. (The skid indicator light comes on- but the abs does not kick in)

When I do feel the abs working (on rare occurances)- it's quiet and sends only a slight vibration through the pedal.

I remember test driving a hybrid on a snowy day on unplowed streets(before ordering mine)- the salesman and I tried several times to get the ABS to kick in... including simulated panic stops from 35mph... and it really didn't kick in. The car did come to a quick stop and stayed on course.

Yes, mine is loud. We get alot of snow where I live in Colorado and I have used it many many times. Honestly, I have been scared by it a couple of times because it vibrates so much and is so loud. I guess it's okay though, better safe than sorry!

From the responses so far, the 07 Camry (non-hybrid) ABS is loud! I am surprised that this is so. I have driven many cars with ABS (both old and new, economy to luxury), and my 07 Camry's ABS is by far the loudest.

Of all the cars I drove, the 2003 Acura RL's ABS was the smoothest and quietest. Even some economy rental cars had quieter ABS than the 07 Camry.

Like Evan215, the first time my Camry's ABS activated, I was scared from the noise.

Who cares if it is loud? When the ABS starts, and you begin feeling the various vibrations, the last thing to mind would be how it sounds.

I put winter tires on even though it was mild this year. I did not find the ABS kicking in to be loud. I did feel the pedal vibrate when I jammed on the brakes.

Doesn't bother me. As long as it works, the noise and virbration is a mental reminder to change driving habits.

brake harder and it will kick in...or brake on a slippery surface, it will kick in earlier.

the purpose is that you can still control your car rather than only skidding, sliding aka loosing control entirely.

works on all surfaces, I just mentioned that if you want to experience how it feels it is easier to trigger on a slippery surface...any hard braking on street should also do it...but why would you test it in the first place if you have no reason to believe it is not working properly.
