5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It amazes me how Toyota doesn't advertise a lot of the technology built into it's products.
You had to go through the shop manual to find out that the Automatic temp control system in the XLE and others uses a artifical intellegence neural network logic program to control the temp. The AC compressor is a continuous variable design to reduce load on the engine.
Another one I just stumbled across is that alternator has a acoustically decoupled pulley to reduce the "noise" of accessories coming on line.
I wonder what other magic lurks under the hood that buyers are not aware of?
On edit I forgot the Active engine mount system to reduce vibration and noise at idle.
Quote:
A 3-point support on the front sub-frame is used. An active control engine mount is used on the front engine
mount and a liquid-filled compound engine mount is used on the right and left engine mounts to realize low
noise and vibration and to achieve high levels of both riding comfort and drivability.

What amazes me also is the 2007 V6 Camry uses the first (?) 6-speed automatic transmission with the top two gears overdrive. That's how this 3500 pound V6 can get the advertised 31mpg on the highway. Depending how much you paid the vehicle contains some of the most current technology normally found on luxury high end vehicles....throttle by wire, tpms, 6-7 airbags, ultra low emission engine, etc.

I'm impressed by the tranny, too.
I did a test on the highway, you can go very slowly in 6th gear.
I did 80km/h (50MPH) at roughly 1000rpm only in 6th gear. That is CRAZY!!!

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.

They've actually done somewhat similar to that for Lexus LS model by putting the massage on back seat. Back in 2001, I saw one couple walked in Lexus dealer, the SMART saleman told the wife to seat in the back and turned on the massage and BOOM the couple put in the order for LS430
