5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Let me just start by saying that I known there was a Gen 6 transmission poll in the past. But I'm creating a new one because that one included i4's. So turn your flames off...
Anyway, I'm thinking of buying a V6 SE but the transmission flare issue is a buzz kill...so I'd like to know how many of you V6 owners had transmission problems?
I have a 8/2006 build and have had zero trans problems.
My 8/2006 Kentucky build began slipping (flare) on the first 3rd to 4th shift after each engine start, at 1200 miles.
I have a close friend that likes my car and she was considering trading in her 2003 Camry for one.
I told her to wait til the next model year, because I've seen no sign that Toyota has a fix for this yet.
What has always baffled me is how many say they have no trouble (and I believe them totally), yet when someone who does have trouble gets a new transaxle, they will often still have the same problem.
This can only mean one of two things:
1. Toyota is intentionally using known defective transaxles as warranty replacements. (seems pretty unlikely)
2. Toyota still doesn't know why some transaxles work properly and some don't.
So until I see that Toyota has the answer, I'm telling everybody that while I like my 2007 V6 Camry SE, I wouldn't advise anybody to buy one yet...

Wow...25% experiencing tranny issues, that's high. I can't imagine that what's going on in the real world. By that I mean that most people who have problems will look for solutions thus end up in a forum such as this, at least that's what I'm hoping
Now I really don't know what to do...
To buy or not to buy, that is the question?
But Vincenzo posted a good question how many of you have problems and have builds after the VIN cut off?

Not as big a problem in the real world.
Most vehicle forums have people on with complaints about their vehicles and looking for answers.
Go to any vehicle forum, any one and you'll see people complaining about issues they have.
Mercedes,Lexus,BMW etc.
If the trans issue was such a big problem it would be national news.It isn't and the '07 Camry has been out for a long time.
When 450+K Camry's are sold with maybe 75K or so V6's and you don't read or hear about trans problems other than on forums, the trans issue is a problem in a very small percentage of Camry V6 vehicles.

I dunno, I bet the real World numbers are worse than they're reported here... The Camry gets "watered down"
1. because of the I4
2. because of the buyer and their ability to identify transmission issues.
For a better comparison of V6 transaxle issues, go to the Lexus forum and hang out with the ES350 guys. They paid $10K-$20K more for their "Camrys" and boyoboy are they pissed! The Lexus folks have a little more "means" than most of us Camry dudes and they're bailing outta ES350s left and right...

Bottom line....have you heard anything about V6 trans problems in the Camry or Lexus nationally?
No doubt trans problems exist but in a small percentage of vehicles.
