5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Let me start by saying I known there was a Gen 6 transmission poll in the past. But I'm creating a new one because that one included v6's. So turn your flames off...
Anyway, I'm thinking of buying an I4 LE but the hesitation issue is a buzz kill...so I'd like to know how many of you I4 owners have transmission problems? Also please include in your post if you had the TSB done and are still experiencing hesitation with your transmission. Now we will have seperate polls for the 5 speed and 6 speed autos
i voted no and i hope it stays taht way...but our cam only has 2500 KM ...and we drive it like 1 time a week? not much untill the snow and most of the salt is washed off the road from a couple heavy rainstorms.

TSB completed for the harsh 5-4 downshift. This also corrected about 90% of the hesitation problem. I am still watching that problem, yet. My (KY 12/06) VIN was over 6300 past the TSB cutoff, CUDOS to my dealer.
Replacing the transmission valve has resulted in a better engine response, strongly indicating that the transmission "Controls" the engine (for shifts), NOT the engine controlling the transmission (what I cut my driving teeth on). The transmission module and the ECM talk together on the CAN buss, which might account for the remaining delay (I have). I am still poking around the manuals and how this car is wired, looking for the interaction/loopback areas. This has been quite an enjoyable challenge.
So far I am very satisfied with my car and the DBW system.

How about adding to the poll "I did have problems but TSB did not fix it"
That needs to be on there As you can see I am new to this.. I tried to add it on now but couldnt.. Im guessing that is something the mods needs to do? In the meantime voting YES will have to suffice.

For crying out loud, I think you can RELAX about this!!!!
Have you checked out the old "hesitation" thread, where people were complaining and complaining and complaining and complaining about it, until the TSB came out, until that change went into production, and then did you notice something after that point in time....
....when there virtually hasn't been any discussion about I4 hesitation whatsoever?
Don't worry about this. It's done. It's over. If you buy an I4 today, it'll be just fine.
There might be a few folks who aren't happy with their I4 transmissions now, but there are a few folks who aren't happy with just about anything you might ask about. But, the general mass of owners who had a problem with this got it fixed via the TSB, and there haven't been new owners who bought cars since that change was made, who haven't mentioned one thing about any I4 transmission problems.

So, relax, and go buy your I4 Camry!
I had problems with my I4, which was produced AFTER the TSB!!! TOYOTA has not corrected ALL post TSB vehicle problems, the are still there. It is still up to the owner to complain to the dealer/TOYOTA about their problems. Owners should be advised about the TSBs, for the first step in knowing whether their symptom is "NORMAL" or NOT. As all of you know, Service Reps and Techs will (nearly) ALWAYS tell you it is normal [till it runs out of the warranty time].
Buy your I4, Be happy, be glad that the production problems are corrected. IF YOU ARE AWARE THAT ONE MIGHT STILL SLIP THROUGH, as mine did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I baught in Jan, 2007, MFG date was 1st week of Dec. 2006 and it was AFTER THE TSB cutoff VIN by 6300!!!!!!!!! My 5 -4 downshift got so bad that it would almost leave rubber behind!!! Read my last post about the hesitation problem, IT OCCURED AGAIN TODAY. I am not done with it at the dealer, even if they say the PCM update has been completed. If it is broke they need to fix it!!!!

After TSBed its like driving a totally different car. However theres still some thing that bothers me. When i drive above 40mph and release gas pedal I fell pretty strong engine braking. After the gas is re-applied my car jerks a little. Sometimes it's pretty annoying. Does anyone have similar experience?
Thanks.

Yes, I experience the same with my May '06 built '07Camry I4A. Only had the reprogramming TSB done and not the "Solenoid/valve fix" for the harsh 4-5 downshift. I twice posted an enquiry, recieving only a single response for anyone who had the valve fix "TSB TC010-06". Maybe you'll get a better response?
Yep, I purchased mine March '06, but my dealer REFUSES to apply the TSB. I have a complaint filed with corporate. They are giving the dealer until end of business on the the 20th to get back with me and revisit the issue. We shall see.
