5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I placed an order the other day for a set of TRD springs and a TRD strut tower bar! My pockets are gonna hurt pretty bad but I'm ready to feel the suspension upgraded. As I was ordering the strut tower bar, I was told by the guy on the phone that the strut tower bar I had ordered was apparently the LAST ONE ANYWHERE. He said that the computer showed none in any warehouse and none were in transit either. Unless the guy was bullshitting me, there's a chance that the TRD strut tower bar might be discontinued. Either that or the production of TRD parts for the Gen 5 has began to dramatically slow down since the introduction of the Gen 6.
Can any of you inside guys or dealers on this forum give us any information concerning this?

Cool! Let us know how the car feels after the upgrades. I'd like to do the same with my Camry, but I'm not sure how effective it will be for the price.

Couldn't resist after I beat you to that deal, eh?

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

No, I couldn't. I guess I got the car modding bug lately. I usely don't buy two car parts at once and especially expensive ones. You might get a PM at some point in time about installing those springs. Right now, I'm reading and convincing myself that I can install them myself.

You can totally do it yourself. I'd say get a friend to help, 'cause I dunno if I could've done it on my own (mainly 'cause certain parts are so much easier with an extra set of hands). Look up RedPhoenix's spring install DIY on his Gen 3. Thats the DIY that I followed and it was almost the same exact thing.

Yeah, I found that thread but there are no pics any more. It still has pretty good directions though. I've looked at the manual too which has pretty straightforward directions for removing the strut assembly.
I'm going have a time with the hills around here. Hopefully the progressive wound helps out a little. All this spring stuff is new to me. I said the same thing about my retrofit though.

^I think snicko had a DIY for lowering on the gen 5. Honestly it was fairly easy to lower the car bymyself, but an extra set of hand would have defintely made the job go by faster.
The compressing isn't hard...doesn't take long either. Its the fact there are 4 strut assemblies. Having someone else there, can cut the time in half..if they know what they are doing. It took my like a whole day when i did mine cuz i ended up braking like 3 sockets on thanksgiving day, DOH! So i had to borrow a car and drive around looking for sockets, lol. I'd say expect at least an hour per strut if you don't know what you are doing

It takes five minutes to jack up the car and take a wheel off. About another half-hour per strut to get the strut off and remove the spring, then replace, if you're using air tools.
