Stuck on Hill

Okay... question...

I should've brought this up a while ago... but I kept putting it off. When we had snow out here, I was going up a hill and my car was beginning to get stuck up the hill. I put my shifter into the "S" mode and shifted down to 2nd gear. My car started to go... but then after a while as the hill got steeper, the tires stopped moving. I had my foot on the gas and no movement on the tires. Any thoughts??? Is this because of my VSC??? What would I have to do if this happened again???

The tires just stopped turning even when you hit the gas, no spin out? Suggest doing a Google search on the types of traction control systems (as in Toyota, Ford, etc). With some systems, if the road conditions are just right, the traction control system appears to get confused. The system works by applying the brake on the slipping wheel. If both wheels are slipping the system may clamp on both brakes and the car stops moving.

Can you turn the system off, or at least try to get one driven tire on a surface having better traction.

None of the tires slips out... it just stops moving even applying the gas pedal. In fact, I don't even remember hearing the engine roaring or trying to work it's way off the hill. I just thought it was the traction control... if this is the case... THIS SUCKS!!!

TRAC will eventually shut off fuel to the injectors if it cannot compensate through use of the binders... Further, continued oscillation from the ABS system will eventually cause it to shut down because it statrts to build heat under operation, I think there is a temp cutoff for the brake modulator.

These systems work great in your typically start from a stop-light scenario, but there's occasions where wheel spinning will get you where you want to go, unfortunately the system only recognizes one condition.... BTW - you can shut the TRAC system off.

How do you shut the Trac system off? Is there a switch somewhere??? I heard that you can't, but if I can install a switch somewhere, that would be great for my winter madness!!

Do a search, it is a process of engaging/disengaging the E-brake. It has been posted before.

I had the same exact thing happen to me. It is 100% absolutely the VSC system stopping the wheels from spinning. It was really frustrating. I am sure I posted my incident on here where I couldn't get up the hill.

Thanks wireless. Found it! This procedure looks long... but I'll try it out. Thanks again!
