Canada Want to install a sunroof

Do anyone know where is a good place(comes with warrenty and good price) to install a sunroof? I live in Toronto area. Also, I want to know would it make any different to install the type that opens over the roof or the ones that slide inside the roof? Thanks

If you mean retrofitting an original Camry sunroof, forget it. The costs involved are astronomical.

Allow me to shed some light on the issue. My Camry had roof damage from snow coming down from a house's roof.

So now I got a new roof. In the process, they needed a new roof panel, interior headliner and new sunroof rails because all that got damaged.

Straight from my invoice, the parts cost:

Roof - $749.50
Sunroof Rail System - $1221.50
Interior Headliner - $1243.20
Roof Labor - $480.30

And that's BEFORE the actual cost of the sunroof glass itself. In my case, they're using the original one cuz it didn't get damaged at all.

In your case, add between $500 to $1000 on top.

If you want a QUALITY place, free of the Toyota "Certified" bullshit, go to "John's Unique".

It's in the Keele and St. Clair area on Union Road. Look it up on Google. It's a large-scale operation - those guys fix ANY brand and model. You'll see plenty of expensive cars being fixed there, and their work is warranted well.

My mechanic sends everyone there.

I bought my STS used a few years back and the original owner needed to have an aftermarket moonroof installed.

Unless it's from the factory, I'd never again buy a car with a moonroof/sunroof installed aftermarket. Fit and finish and quality can't even get close to when it's done at the factory. Factory moonroofs/sunroofs usually down the road end up leaking eventually... image what a aftermarket one would do then!

It's hard enough for me to bring my car into the dealership to do TSB's, as nothing is the same after things are pulled apart vs. factory, much less having someone CUT into my ROOF and installing a moonroof/sunroof.

IMO I'd spend the money on rims or something else you would want for the car!

I have heard plenty of tales as well about people having problems with aftermarket sunroofs. I was considering the same thing on my Gen 5. After countless replies that said don't do it, I took heed to all the warnings. If I find the thread, I will post it up. The best thing you can do which is most expensive is get the whole roof replaced like Yazovet did. It is the only way you will really get a reliable sunroof.

Never install an aftermarket sunroof.

If the factory didn't install it, FORGET IT.

If you want one that bad, sell your car and buy one with a factory sunroof.

I installed a sun roof in my Yugo .... it was back in the day and it was a manual pop up type. Amazingly I doubled the value of the car by adding the sunroof and filling it up with gas.

Here's a pic of the Yugo and I am serious this was me in like 1991 - hahahahhaha

Aftermarket sunroof = bad idea....

Just what they said above--- they tend to leak after a while and they provide more problems then they are worth.

Sunroofs sound alot nicer then they really are, but in reality you may use it when you first get it, but after you barely ever use it. I only used mine a few times in almost a year.

depends on the person i believe.. ive had mine for the past 8 months and on the days that its nice, i use it. i always keep the sliding cover open because it makes the car feel more open.. but definitely agree that if it didnt come from factory, dont get it!

That's one bad-ass Yugo. Look at that - even got tinted windows.

That's a seriously "ill" late-80s look you got there, man!
