first oil change .... disaster ... no oil in engine now :(
I had my oil changed today ... drove home from work, about 70 miles ... noticed a big oil spot under the car when I went back out about an hour later. Checked the oil ... nothing on the dip stick. Called the dealer, they are coming to get the car on a flatbed tomorrow and giving me a loaner. What should I do? Should I be worried about the long term damage to the engine? What should I ask them to do for me? The car only has 5000 miles on it
u had it changed at the dealership? what was the cause? did they forget to put the drain plug back in or something??? if it was their fault, i would make the hugest stink possible.. most likely if the engine is shot, they will say that they will swap out motors, but then your car will never be the same again... maybe see if they have some type of buy back program and you can get yourself a brand new cam

I had it changed at the dealership. Not sure what the cause was yet, will find out tomorrow. It is gonna cost them about $1500 to just swap everything from my current car to a new one if they would buy it back. A total pain in the ass. I am gonna ask for a 7year/100k warranty for free and see where that gets me.
oh no thats not good...not too long ago a member on here had his oil changed and they forgot the drain plug or something... anyways i hope everything works out for you.. dont want to see such a nice camry with problems already
My guess is something did not get put on right. The drain plug may not have been tightened enough or the filter was put on wrong.
I remember I put the filter on wrong somehow on my 5S-FE and when I started the car to check for leaks, oil was coming out from between the gasket and the oil filter mount - not a lot, but enough that you could see it coming out. Shut it down, took the filter off and put it back on. Started it up again and it was good to go.

I am okay if they document the problem ... give me a long warranty for free, appologize, give me some free oil changes. I understand people make mistakes ... it is how they admit to them and handle them is what defines their character ... I'll see tomorrow how my dealership is. I talked to the General Sales Manager tonight, will talk to the service dept. tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted.
Good grief, if a Toyota dealership cannot even do a simple chore like changing the oil what hope is there when you take it in to the neanderthals at Jiffy lube? I have ranted about how i feel about this on several posts so nothing new to add. Once i even posted a video from TV where they used hidden cameras to show that jiffy lube did not change the fuel filter that had been already paid for.
Point taken, I will change my own oil until i am too decrepit to crawl under the car!!!

Depending on where the oil filter is located, theres a trade secret that doesn't require you to.
So what is the word ???? If no engine oil light came on while going home, youre probably OK, lets hope for the best
They picked up my car with a flatbed, brought me a Corolla. I probably won't know what/if any damage was done to the engine until Monday. I am still disappointed and have lost a little faith. I drive 35k+ miles a year and it is hard to tell if there is any long term damage to the engine. They are going to have to do something to make me feel better. I'll have to wait and see.
Watchcrazy,
It might not be as bad as you think it is. You should have checked to see where the oil was leaking from under the car, be it the filter or drain plug. In any event, the engine can have a couple quarts in it and not show on the dip stick, and if it was still draining out an hour after you parked, well there was likely oil pumping the full trip. They probably didn't get the drain plug in tight.
If you had driven out of the dealership with no oil you wouldn't have gotten 5 miles, so my educated guess is that you leaked oil all the way home, and as long as it had enough in the pan to pump, it is alright. Tragedy here is that you didn't bother to check where the leak was, so now it is your word against their's when it comes to the question of any engine damage. Bad move.

Still gotta get to the drain plug, no? Whats the secret
Nope, does not even require removing of the drain bolt. I'll give you a hint, think Mercedes and oil change. They've been doing it for years and I've been doing it as well on my Integra.
