5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm currently driving an 06 civic ex sedan, but i'm looking for something with more room/power/features
I've narrowed it down to a v6 SE or v6 XLE. I haven't had time to go test drive yet but i wanted to ask, how comfortable is the ride/suspension on the SE? Is it more or less comfy than the XLE? Also, do the 17 inch tires make the ride more bumpy? The reason i'm asking is because i prefer comfort over performance and i'm wondering if the sport suspension on the SE will make the ride more harsh than on the XLE.
On another note i'm pretty torn between these 2 cars. I love the way the SE looks, that, and black leather seats as an option. On the other hand, the XLE comes with more features, but looks a bit bland and can't have black leather seats. Which would you guys choose? any why? Oh yeah also, are there any problems with your current cars? (for those that have the model i'm lookin at) Thanks!
The XLE is softer and probably considered more 'comfortable' to most as it is supposed to be the 'luxo' trim versus the sport ride of the SE which is a bit tighter.
I have an SE. You need to go drive them both because you can't buy a car based on someone else's opinions.

To me, the XLE Has always had the smoother ride. But don't get me wrong, all Camrys have a very smooth ride. Regaurdless of the Trim level. All thats different is the Suspension Setup on the SE. They made it to be sporty yet comfortable.
It also depends on how you drive. I personally love my SE. It is definitly smoother than my previous cars (03' Mazda 6s and 95' Camaro Z28). In any case... like what wireless said... you gotta test drive them and judge for yourself. If you ask us... it's just based on our own opinions.
My brother likes the features and went for the XLE. I like the exterior looks of the SE and personally thinks it handles a lot better than the XLE... so I got the SE. Again... it's all on your personal taste and how you drive your car.
thanks u guys. I'll go in for a test drive soon, but i just wanted to get some opinions from people who have been driving the car for awhile. You guys probably know the car better (it's pros n cons) and could give me some insight. Thanks again.
It all depends what your priorities are. Also what are you used to and what are you looking for in a suspension? Ofcourse a test drive where you can put the car thru it paces , ideally without the sales person in the car, will be an eye opener. Coming from a sport sedan back ground I prefer the SE because its suspension is ideal-it is never harsh, does not beat you up on rough roads, yet absorbs irregularities without floating afterwards. Actually I would have preferred a slightly stiffer springs/struts. It feels better connected to the road and will help keep cornering flatter in the twisties. It is not just the heavier springs and bigger sway bars but also the additional body braces which the XLE does not have, that have resulted in better overall handling. It is not in BMW territory yet, who is, but a good tuning job by Toyota never the less. This way it will still appeal to a broad range of car enthusiasts.
....but also the additional body braces which the XLE does not have...
If you are refering to the V brace behind the rear seats, the XLE does have it. That is why the SE and XLE models do not have the rear fold-down seat. What brace(s) are in the SE, but not the XLE?
hmm...are those welds or bolts?.... *don't go giving me ideas for my LE now.

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.

go XLE all the way if you want the comfort and toys...I have my Celica if I want the corners. I have the Corolla for the gas mileage, I have my XLE for the comfort. If you are looking for a sporty ride, handling is priority go for the SE. It has the handling and the great looks. I chose my XLE for comfort. I call it my Baby Lexus, cuz it virtually similar with the toys I have on it.
- reclining rear seats
- PlasmaCluster Air purifier ( or something like that )
- Automatic climate control
- push button start.
- same darn engine for goodness sakes ( 268hp as oppose to the 272hp on the Lexus, I heard its a bit of Chip programming and using Premium unleaded gas, but that could be a myth )
Decide on what the purpose of your Camry is going to be, and ultimately it'll be your final decision, and definitely drive them both. Its always good to get other peoples opinions.

Or go like me and get near XLE comfort and convenience with Corolla-like economy. I got the Camry Hybrid. Granted we've only had it for 2 weeks now but it is more apparent we made the right choice.

Add tinting will make your XLE more comfortable for the person sitting in the rear seat.
