Gen6 question about speaker upgrades??

I had a question about replacing the stock speakers inside a 2007 SE. I want to upgrade the two front door and rear deck speakers with Pioneer TS-A6962R 6x9's. My question is do you think I will need to redrill to mount the speakers?? Have any of you replaced your speakers, and did not need to drill new mounting holes??

Thanks for all your help!

According to Crutchfield the Pioneer TS-A6962R will not fit. You'll most likely have to perform some type of modification if your set on that model.

I would go to www.crutchfield.com and see what fits, you don't have to buy as you can probably find the same item somewhere else for less but you'll at least know it fits.

Crutchfield is merely a suggestion.

The only true danger is if the speaker you're buying has a greater DEPTH than there is space. Otherwise, you can also mod the mounting brackets.

I have replaced the rear 6x9's in my LE and yes I had to drill new holes. I want to replace the 6x9's in the door but I'll wait until someone on here shows pics of how to.

I replaced mine with some Alpine R 6x9, I took the old speaker out and traced a piece of card board over where the mounting area was. It just covers the area where the mounting holes are. traced it to 3/4in mdf. I cut a piece of 3/4in mdf and cut a hole for the 6x9s I placed some foam gaket around the mdf facing the door to make a good seal. Also I placed some sound deadenr on the door and on the inside of the . I screwed the 6x9 to the mdf and used the original mounting holes for the mdf to the door. The window does not hit the speaker and the door panel fits fine. No rattles either when I have it cranked up.

Instead of MDF, it's possible to get these speaker adapters (front): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6x9-Speaker-Adapters-Toyota-FJ-Cruiser-Camry-4Runner_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38636QQihZ021QQ itemZ310040267711QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

and plug-n-play 6x9's you want. For the 6x9 rear, get these adapters (from the same seller):

You also need 2 of these wire harnesses:

I was wondering the guys who replaced the stock speakers also added an amp too or not. If not, did you feel like the extra cost and labor worth it? Did the sound quality improve quite noticably? I just put an alpine CDA-9886 ( I really recommend this HU) but not sure if I will change the speakers or not.

I upgraded to Infinity kappa 6x9's all around recently. The rears are pretty easy.
The doors reqd a little cutting with shears and drilling. I got all the details in a Chiltons Camry book. Instructions were exact. The door stock speakers are weird. Trim the stock speaker off the black plastic ring and cut the wires closest to the speaker so you can use the stock connector on the ring. Place the new speaker on top of the plastic ring and drill a screw in an angle to hold. Connect stock wires to ring and install panels. The Kappas were perfect depth. You can tie wrap a crossover inside the door ont he bottom to the wire floom.
Rear speakers are simple.
Buy a 4 way amp and mount under passenger seat.

Yes, the added amp to aftermarket speakers is very well worth the extra work and cost. With the headunit, wiring and equipment, my cost was under $1500 total with me installing the equipment myself, and making my own speaker baffles (not including security system).

I got my CE back in December or '07, and was very disappointed in the audio quality. I also have the '03 XLE V6. I did relatively the same thing in the '03, with a few minor exceptions. I felt the '03 needed something better than the '07 since it's an XLE, so I installed Kappa Perfect 6.1 all the way around. So here's what I did to my '07...

Installed Alpine iDA-X100 with the full speed iPod cable, usb input, and 3.5 mm aux cable. Great head unit, but not as good as my previous CDA-7878 or CDA-7998.

Installed 4 pairs of Infinity Kappa 60.7cs components in all speaker locations. I mounted the tweeters about 2 inches away from the mids. I made my own speaker baffles using 3/4" MDF wood. I've always used MDF wood. My experience with plastic speaker baffles is, when you turn up the sound, the plastic may start to rattle.

Installed Kicker ZX700.5 Amp mounted to the back of the rear seat with a JL Audio 700 Watt Power Amp Kit.

Installed 1 10" Xtant subwoofer... I don't like a lot of bass, but I need a good amount to compliment the quality of sound.

Finally, if you're going to do audio upgrades, you've gotta have security. I paid a shop to install the Python 990 with remote start. I couldn't do it myself due to time constraints.

Starting from scratch, this was an entire weekend project from Friday after work through late Sunday night. But this upgrade makes my 2 hour daily drive to work much better than before.
