What is the point of an ignition kill switch when you can just turn the key?

when the switch if off the ignition is totally disabled.

if a thief tries to hotwire the car nothing happens.

unless he knows exactly which wire was bypassed the car can not be hotwired.

i guess he could jump start the starter.

Or go straight to the source and just hotwire them.

It should deter away amateur thieves but not the experts. Every security measure can be bypassed. So far the only one I've encountered that've claimed not to be bypassed (which I have no experience with) would be the Ravelco.

I've read on another forum someone actually used a starter kill type setup to cut power to the fuel pump. That might be a better alternative.

That's a good idea to target ignition-unrelated components.

That would be a fuel kill switch. Disconnect the power or negative going into the fuel pump which disables it from starting. As I've said before, still can be bypassed vai the source but still a good measure.

A fuel cut off would probably be a better way than to cut the starter on my car.

I can start my car with a dead starter if I had to.

Thats a great idea, and my shop has done many for people, who don't want alarms but need some safet. But that switch is WAY to bulky;

We used valet push switches; High Beams; Low Beams; Parking Lights, Parking Brake, Brakes Lights, Turn Signals, Wipers, and others.

Most of the times its a combination. Light button and lights.
