5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I cant believe im actually asking this, but im looking for some good opinions on whether the V6 and the LE grade are worth the extra $5,000.
I know salesmen are pushy, (and before you say anything, he didnt even mention about upgrading from the CE). Anyways, when he said to me "when you make your monthly payment, you need to look outside at your car and say "I made the right choice"". Now I really like the Camry, but when I was test driving the CE auto, it just didnt seem like anything special, and that my current Gen3 seemed to have alot more kick.
I have a feeling that after a few weeks or a couple months, i'll look at my car and kick myself in the bum because I didnt want to pay for the V6.
The MSRP price for the CE Manual is around $19,500 and the MSRP for the LE V6 Auto is $24, 300.
I really want some other peoples opinions on this to...
It's only 1-2MPG different, so thats not anything big at all. I probably will test drive one tomorrow, I just think that if I end up getting the I4, im going to regret it for as long as I have the car...
At least drive the V6, the power is unreal and the 6 speed trans. is
really nice. I've have 4 Camry's over the years and they all been I4
but after driving v6 I fell in love with the v6........

I think you just answered your question right there!!!! If you have ANY reservations at all about a lack of power in the 4cyl then the V6 is definitely worth it. Our other car is an automatic xB. We sold a tC for the xB and we too noticed the lack of power during the test drive. We thought... eh.. no biggie... it's not like the tC was a race car anyways and we have the Camry for long trips. Sure enough... after a couple of months we now HATE how slow the xB is and we miss our tC so much we're seriously thinking of dumping the xB.
They are different issues. The i4 has programming & drive by wire problems, the v6's have the shift flare problem.
And the i4 sucks. Imagine your 1mz minus 30hp, 40ft-lbs. Then tack on another 200lbs of dead weight.
You wouldn't be able to live with it having something atleast respectably descently quick before hand.

What I noticed when test driving the I4, was that there was a bit of a hesitation between when I pressed the gas and when it actually look off, and even more so when it downshifted when I was trying to pick up speed. The tach would go from say, 2K to 4K but you wouldnt feel the difference for a second or so. And I also noticed that the RPM's were getting in the 4-5K range when entering the interstate!
Im looking at both the new V6 LE for around 24K, or a used 3.5 Maxima for 20K.
