5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 07 Camry's passenger seat make a rattling sound when I go over bumps and the seat is not occupied. Any one else experience this problem? I thought it was a loose strut on the passenger side, but it's the seat!
My 07 camry has the same issue with the passenger seat , seat will make a rattling noise when driving , also noise can be dupilcated when taping on back of the chair... I took it in for service to my local jack safro toyota dealer and they removed the seat and broke it down and determined that there is no serviceable parts, only option is to replace the seat which is $7000.00 they say .. Iam waiting on toyota to have a field engineer come out and check out the problem and to ok replacement seat ... And to top it off, The tech who took the seat out for inspection damaged the door sill, rubbering molding and plastic pillar behind seat belt and put a gouge in door panel and small scuffs by the side off the glove box just by removing and reinstalling seat... so now i play the waiting game to get my car fixed .
So far toyota has let me down.. Camry only has 15,000 miles and already needs
replacement transmisson due to 3rd and 4 gear flares
replacement seat due to noises
Already has had passenger visor mirror replaced due to faulty switch .
My pass seat back rattles too. Do what I havent tried, if no one is sitting in it, put it in the all the way up-right position and see if it still does it.

I keep my laptops case on it and it kind of dampers it, but your right, I can replicate it by hitting the seat, going to take it back to toyota for service, $7000!!!! The pulling your leg

....Just another reason why I aways recommend AGAINST having a dealer do any "rattle fixes" or similar work.
The "tech?"
I'd call it this way:
The service monkeys will have to tear your interior apart. Oh, call it "dis-assemble" if you'd like, but they will tear your interior apart. Actually, use any term you'd like for the "quality" of their work: Slipshod, sloppy, careless, incompetent, lousy, stinking -- whatever. But, just expect that you will wind up with a horrifying mess beyond anything you could possibly imagine. And, of course, they won't fix any rattles.
So, that's the story -- your dealer is far more likely to DAMAGE YOUR CAR than it is to actually fix anything. Read around the board for other horror stories like this -- for every "success" story, you'll find ten or more "no fix" or "worse" stories -- where they actually damaged the car. And, it's oh, so very likely that you'll wind up with far more rattles than you ever had before they touched your car.
I still maintain that we have to figure out exactly what is rattling or making any noise that we don't think we should be hearing, and then come on back here and we'll talk about how to go about fixing it. Your dealer just won't take care of your interior -- and it most certainly won't put things back together nearly as well as they were in the first place -- so you need to take care of your own car, with the patience and the care it deserves!
At any rate, "sorry to hear your story of woe." Everyone else -- LEARN from this example!
When I had the noise reduction kit installed, they did something to the AC controls where it now has friction to it when I turn the knobs? I was so nervous knowing that they where going to be ripping my dash apart! So when I bring it in for the seat noise, I'm going to have them check it!

The JBL amp is under the seat too, so make sure the plastic casing around it isn't making a tapping sound. Mine was when I was going over uneven pavement, so I applied some foam and haven't had noice since.
I purchased a new 2008 SE 5 speed 4 weeks ago and I am noticing the rattle in the passenger seat when it is not occupied and I go over bumps. I also thought it was the seatbelt but it's not. I am able to make it go away if I hold the plastic trim on the side of the seat. That's the piece with the seat back handle sticking out of it. I thought it might be the handle but it's not. I think it's something under the seat resting against the trim. Has anyone found a solution to this seat rattle? I haven't gone to my dealer yet, I figured I would check with you guys. I love my new car but this is going to drive me nuts.
only option is to replace the seat which is $7000.00 they say .
$7,000 for a seat??!!
If you have an LE, it is only $2,563.50. Even the XLE only goes up to 4k.
I hope your seats are made of gold for them to quote you a price like that. Or at least give you a 'happy ending' while they are at it...

That TSB covers the drivers seat. This noise is in the passenger seat. It only happens when the seat is empty and I go over a bump. It's probably loose trim because I can make it stop if I put my hand on the plastic on the side of the seat bottom. I guess I need my dealer to look at it. Thanks the link though, I have saved a copy of the drivers seat TSB just in case.........

I have the exactly the same issue as yours on my passenger seat... but I still cannot reproduce the problem... It happened sometimes especially when i go over some bumps or drove on a bumpy road... It happened more when weather is cold. I am not sure if the noise came out from seat or it's one of the TSB regarding the Instrument Panel Rattle Noise (T-NV008-07-Instrument Panel Rattle Noise)
