Gen5 Mobil 1 Atf Mercon V

Finally, my car has reach its 60k and thinking of doing a flush of the power steering fluid. Yesterday, I bought 2 qt. of Mobil 1 ATF MERCON V fluid. Now, I am not sure if this is compatible with the OEM PS fluid. I know the manual recommended DEXron II or III and the reservior say USE DEXRON II OR DEXRON. On the back of the MOBIL 1 , it says it 's recommended for any PS the uses DEXRON or MERCON. So I hoping this would be OK. PLs. feedback is needed. Thanks

I use synthetics in my car too.

If that's what it says on the bottle you will be just fine.

I change mine every so often, once a year maybe. I like to do it the easy way. There is also a hard and complicated way if you enjoy pain. And if you do, that's your business.

EASY WAY: Buy turkey baster from 99 cents store. (Note: its probably better not to use your wife's unless you have an excellent pre-nup.) Take the turkey baster with you and buy a 6" length of tubing, any kind. (The tubing must have: inner diameter that will squeeze over the tip of the turkey baster, BUT an OD that fits into the filler hole of the P/s Fluid reservoir. Fuel hose is about right.)

Shut off engine. Suck out P/S reservoir with your turkey baster and discard old fluid. Refill reservoir with fresh. run engine a minute. Repeat steps several times, until it starts coming out clean or you are getting bored to death. If any doubt about how clean fluid is now, repeat later - once more ought to do it.

HARD/COMPLICATED WAY: Disconnect P/S hose from reservoir. Rig up complicated flushing system involving tubing, hose clamps, mops and rags for the floor. Run engine, hurry and refill P/S reservoir like a mad man before it runs dry. reconnect hoses, clean up mess, hope you didnt wreck P/S pump from letting reservoir accidentally run dry for a few seconds.
Run engine and check P/s hoses for leaks at connections or anyplace else. If leaks are found, swear loudly and then tighten and/or replace hose clamps and hope this stops the leaks.
