5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a K&N. Don't know about the TRD, but, to be honest, I haven't noticed any horsepower gain. I have read a post from another SE V6 on K&N's site that says that it made their car come alive -- very doubtful that you would notice any difference except you don't have to change your filter ever again!!!
By the way, enjoy the new car. I just bought mine a few months ago, and I am also looking at some 18s. I bought all the protective products -- all weather mats, seat covers, and a 3M clear bra, but no real performance or aesthetic upgrades yet.
2007 Camry SE V6 + K&N Filter = Zoooom Posted on 01/24/2007 by Rommel L. (Ontario, CA) 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
"One week after I bought my 2007 Camry SE V6, I added a K&N filter from AutoAnything and I felt my Camry come alive. I can feel the extra power across the power band. Thats the reason all my cars are K&N Equipped. Best bang for the buck. Thanks AutoAnything."
Its always going to be a tradeoff between filtration and power. Those drop in filters won't do much in terms of increasing a lot of power. And besides don't you have enough power already?

I tried the K&N filter partly wishing that the HP will increase thus increasing the MPG. After one tank of gas, the MPG did not increase. It seems it decreased.

Vehicle manufacturers must meet a CAFE requirement and every year that CAFE MPG average requirement goes up.
Don't you think vehicle manufacturers would use a K&N drop in filter if it actually produced more MPG's?
Actually, they are less restrictive. That's a fact. That being said, they do increase power. That is also a fact.
As far as ruining sensors go, that only happens if you over oil the filter. The air does not get enough velocity to carry the oil UPWARD.
Why don't the manufacturers install them? I'm sure it has alot to due with cost and convenience. The K&N and TRD filters cost 3-4 times as much as a paper filter, and it's doubtful that Joe Blow would ever clean it. They could add the best oil, best tires, nitrogen in the tires, better light bulbs, better oil filters, etc but the added cost of every little thing would either drive the cost of the car up, or the profit per car down. Neither is acceptable I'm sure.
You won't really notice a performance advantage because our 4 and 6 cylinders don't make much power to begin with. When you get into larger and more powerful engines is when you will see a measureable difference in power.
I'm having a hard time believing that they actually filter less. If that was the case they wouldn't meet the manufacturers specifications. I would like to the see proof for that one, but that's not going to happen.
I've driven my Formula for 239,000 miles with a K&N filter and have NEVER had a problem with the MAF or dirt getting in my intake due to poor filtration.
