5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i have a gen 5.5. keep in mind this is for performance application, i want my car to handle as good as possible.
im getting 18" rims, what width should i be looking at? i was thinking 8" but i was also looking into wider, such as 8.5" and 9"
would it be stupid to get narrower rims in the back (ex:8.5 front 8 rear), and use spacers to even it out?
if i were to get 8.5" or 9", should i look into getting fender flares?
thanks for any help.
18" wheels aren't really performance oriented unless you get the expensive lightweight which I don't think you'll get. Since you want a staggered setup (on a FWD) then I am guessing you are going for straightline performance. And if that is the case, choose your tires and work from there.
i've got the nice lightweight 18" bbs wheels wrapped in aggressive yokohama's. the tires are 235. and i've experimented. turns i used to have to slow down for, i can take like a rally car now. i'm happy with my setup. 18's all around for me, just got them a couple weeks ago too. VERY NICE(borat accent)

I agree..but even then, 18's as a performance wheel is not really the best choice here...but just my opinion
it's a mix of show and performance that i am looking for. i'm going to get the lightest 18s i can afford. i will probably drop like 1100 or 1200 on the set. also going to get a nice set of 14"s or 15"s for the track, mated up with a set of slics. so can we get back onto the real question, which is width, and not wether it is 17" or 18"? thanks.
8.5 is pretty much the limit. i had 19 x 8.5 with a 225/35 tire, and i was hella flush with the fender, so with a drop it would probably take some work(just fender roll/pull)
Well depends what offset you wanna run, and how low you wanna drop. You gotta help us understand your situation before we can help you out with your problem. thanks
