5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So the 07 Camry V6 uses a different type of oil filter? Do I have to get that from the dealership directly? Or is there a way for me to order in bulk online for a better price but same Toyota quality.
Anything special related to changing the oil on the 07 Camry V6s? I haven't looked under it yet, but it seems that the oil filter is just a bit bigger and more complicated, but still a screw off and screw on thing?
Also, the manual recommended 5W-30, but I've heard of TSBs that allows 5W-20 for the 2GR-FE engine as well. Would it be better to buy 5W-20? Do they have Mobil1 5W-20 Synthetic?
Thanks a lot.

The filter is a cartridge so you do not replace the entire canister like what you may have done in the past. You replace the filter element and a couple O-rings.

Easiest way to find out whether or not Mobil makes Mobil 1 in 5W-20 would probably be to check their website. But that doesn't mean that you'll be able to find it in stores near you.
Well as far as I know theres nothing special about changing the oil filter on the camry v6,except that its the cannister type.Alot of people recommend using aftermarket oil filters like fram because they're alot better than the original toyota oil filter. You could go to walmart and find it.If you're really picky about choosing then you could try the trd oil filter specially designed for the 07'camry v6.Here's the link.Hope it helps.

are you sure its for the 2006 v6? I mean it says for 2007 camry v6.Did the one you return look like the same white color cannister or was it red? I know preiviously on the 06' and older camry's trd had one that looked identical, but it was red.
If the oil filter is for the 06 v6 camry then someone should call those guys and complian about false advertising. They's shouldn't say its specifically designed for the 07' v6 camry when its not.
it isdefintly not for the 07 V6.
I hadone hat home it was white.
also same part number but ending at -06 instead of -04 is the one for the 2AZ engine
maybe f0r 06 Solara V6.

Napa name, manufactured by Wix, but not necessarily in NC.
Haven't got the "special tools" question resolved yet.
Canister filters are really good and once you're accustomed to them, very easy to change.

If 5W-30 is recommended, why would you want to use 5W-20? If you want, they are all available as full synthetic..but, again, why?
6.5 quarts? Really? I always thought it was 6 quarts.
I've got it all down, but the only thing that I can't remove is the small cap for the smaller o-ring itself, when I try to remove it, it turns the whole filter canister.

6.5 is the dry number (including filter). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you'd use 6 quarts at the oil change. Also, if you use bottled oil you *might* not get exactly 6 qts. as you can't truely drain the bottle 100%.
