Disabling the TPMS?

I was reading through the manual, and I stumbled upon the TPMS section. It said that when you install new tires and the light comes on, to reset the system by pressing the "SET" button near the glove box. From my understanding, it was basically saying that because there might be a difference in pressure, that you should set it so it knows what the normal pressure is.

Now say you remove the wheels and sensors, would it be possible to "set" it so it thinks that 0 PSI is the normal pressure? That way you can have the sensors in the trunk or something and not worry about swapping over the sensors or covering up the light with tape?

No you can't set it to 0. The computer will tyrn light on since it will finf no communication with the sensors. I have mine off with my aftermarket wheels. Light is only on half of the time. Goes off once i out the stock wheels for the winter.

Nice bump...

You can't turn it off via the reset button, or turn it off period.

hehe, I still pop in from time to time

The new Tacoma is great, I love not having to slow down to 2MPH to go over a speedbump or hole, lol.

BTW, I had an LE:

You can but it from the dealer if you want, haha!!

Can't turn it off? Than shut it off...by to put a sticker there to block the light.. or open the instrument panel and remove that light bulb.

Of cause the correct way is to correctly set the TPMS or if it's stolen than buy a new TPMS.

I don't think anyone regular driver should touch this reset button. It is set to a standard 32psi for best performance and durability. Once your tires are within this 32psi range the light will turn off almost right away.

I can go 25 or 35mph over speed bump just fine in my Camry SE with OEM height. Is this what you love most in your Tacoma?

My car was lowered on TRD springs, I had to enter some driveways at angles also because otherwise my bumper would scrape, lol. What I love most about my Tacoma will be coming this winter, being able to drive in the snow and not worrying as much about getting stuck.

Gen6 TPS Light Disable, Maybe....

I think that turning off the TPS light may be feasible, without any sensors.

Read the following:
The Tire Pressure Warning ECU is mounted behind the glove box, near the A/C Amplifier & Certification ECU. [Ref Page 20 of the 2007 Camry Electrical Wiring Diagram].

There is a light blue wire on pin 5 of the TPS ECU connector [reference page 270] that goes to the combination meter pin 7(A), which turns on the TPS Warning Light.

The question is…. Is the voltage applied, OR is the voltage removed, to activate the warning light? If applied, at what level?

I do not recommend unplugging the TPS ECU, the computer might set a warning light for the interruption of the CAN I/F to the TPS ECU.

The voltage needs to be monitored on pin 5 and let the air out of one tire to set the TPS light, then, proceed from there. I don’t have a sheltered area to do this here, and we needed the rain, bad…. Maybe someone has the time to do this and respond before the weekend.

Now, What do you think???

From what I remember the TPMS ECU/fuse was also tied into other ECU components. As for your idea though I have no idea, lol.

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a steel rim, put all the sensors on it, pump it up and leave it in the trunk.

You are correct, that was one reason why I looked at disabling the TPS light "trigger". The other reason was the CAN I/F.
