hey guys, i know there are few threads out about rattling but didnt feel like digging them up..
today on the way to and from school, my car was rattling A LOT. more than usual. its coming from what seems to be near the drivers and passengers handle on the roof.. im also getting rattling down by the passenger foot well/glove box.. any particular reason why i get rattles and they go away and come back other than the temp diff? and has anyone else had the same rattles?
1) The chrome shifter trim below the shift handle on the automatic is a common evasive source of rattles on Gen 5 and prior. Touch it with your finger when you hear rattles and see if they stop. I had 2 Camrys 1 Gen 5 and 1 Gen 4 and they both rattled there. I discovered it on my Gen 5 and the dealer fixed it by gooping it and tightening it. Poor assembly or design.
2) The windows can squeak and ratlle bad on Gen5. I had mine to the dealer twice and they could not find the source. I clean my car fairly often using mild auto soap, but my drivers window really squeaked up a storm, especially when below freezing overnight. I talked to a detailer and he recommended a professional car window cleaner and Mcquires plastic & Vinyl cleaner for cleaning the window edge and seals. I tried it and the sqeaks went away. This was the first car I had that I had to specially clean the windows to keep them from squeaking, but it works, and I'm glad the noise is gone.
Now if I could fix my noisy struts and intake manifold. Oh well, always somthing.
Hope this helps you or any other frustrated Gen5 folks, or any others.
^there is a tsb for that rattling intake mani.
MRsoohoo: this sound is comingup from top? maybe its the a pillar area...i've had problems here before..
The dealer claims that the tsb was for 04 and earlier and they can't hear my rattling. It sounds like pining when you accelerate, and it really can't be heard unless the windows are down. I'm going to take it back to the dealer this summer and they should be able to hear it. To be fair to the dealer, I took it in in the winter and they weren't going to drive with the windows open.
Are you aware of any tsb for the 05 intake? How do look them up?
I believe there was no change in the engine from 04 and gen 5.5. Gen 5 up to 03 should be the different though. Maybe bring it into a shop and have them check it out...and see what they have to say.
Rattles happen. When I hit bumps, I hear vibrations that sound like they are somewhere up high on the passenger side - either in the dash or the pillars. Not sure.
I ended up fixing one rattle that was annoying as hell though. There was a plastic clip that had come loose back behind the glove compartment.
When I get the opportunity, I'm going to sound deaden all my doors and other odd areas depending on how much deadener I have left over. Hopefully that will help some. We drive Camrys though, the rattles and road noise could be MUCH worse.

I don't know if you'd call it "rattling" but my passenger seatbelt clip tends to knock on the pillar during bumps and "spirited" cornering.
amen to spirited cornering haha but ya those seatbelts are really annoying especially if you open the front windows it goes back n forth like crazy, dont think there's a way around that unless you want to ake them out hehe or good ol' duck tape...but doesnt look too good

I take it that you have tried duct tape....
