5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just noticed something weird on XenonDepot's site.
They've priced down all their XenonDepot 4300K kits by about $50. They also offer roughly only half the bulb sizes now.
The H11 kit (for the Camry) is no longer available.
I e-mailed them about this, and I was told that "the product is not available" and to order the XtremeHid kits instead.
I e-mailed them back now to ask again on what happened, and what will happen with the H11 XenonDepot kits, but it doesn't look good.
It looks to me like they're scrapping their home-brew operation. Why else would they price their remaining kits down and offer less sizes?
If the XenonDepot H11 kit isn't available anymore, what are people supposed to get instead? The MTEC or McCulloch ones? No, I'm not gonna do a retrofit "for nearly the same money"; so save your breath retrofit-braggers.
Comments anyone?

i ordered the h11 xtreme hid kit (4000k) and they were backordered. not good but considering i dont even have a camry to put them into yet, i can deal with it.
Other HID kit manufacturers suck. The only one that was good quality, and the only kit that I'd ever recommend to anyone if they were absolutely unwilling to retrofit, was the XenonDepot. Oh well... sucks for you guys, I guess.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
Here is the response I received from XenonDepot this morning:
Quote:
Nope. The Xtreme kits do not use Philips bulbs. The Xtreme kits use Japanese bulbs.
From a quality standpoint I would be lying if I said one was better than the other. In fact, we have had such good luck with the Xtreme line that we just decided to introduce the Xtreme 4k and 5k line. Before, The Xtreme was only available in 6500k and 8000k.
Unfortunately I currently do not have an ETA on the Philips based kit.
Well I've had a "cheapass" kit before which worked just fine. And at just $250 a piece, these XtremeHid kits would be easy to replace. I guess there is no other option...

Thanks, but I've heard that line about 843 times already, and I specifically mentioned that retrofitting was not an option for me in this thread. Please let's not go into another conversion vs retrofit thread. We are supposed to be discussing the depletion of the XenonDepot kits here, and possible alternatives.

Yeah, he's probably lying by saying that they are equal quality. Oh well...
Why don't you just buy Phillips ballasts, make a wiring harness, and get rebased Phillips bulbs? Its the same thing that comes with the XenonDepot kit.

I'm gonna have to go out on a limb and say.....people are really touchy lately. LIke its cardinal sin if you don't have a post that directly pertains to the thread. ANyways I agree with whitechocolate..your best bet is to buy some rebased bulbs, and buy some quality ballasts, and make a wire harness if you want...or just buy one. Whatever works for you. As for the prices coming down, i'm not really sure why, or the reason why they are depleting the sizes offered..seems a bit odd. It also seems odd that they aren't maing their "home brew", but yet theyt direct you to the, i think its called the xtreme HID.

I can get components separately, I suppose, but aren't the plugs and stuff not going to fit each other? I'm sort of tempted right now to get one of XenonDepot's cheap XtremeHID kits for just $225. When something goes bad, I can always just buy one more. It's a dirt cheap kit compared to their Philips-based one which they used to sell...

Well, thats why you'd make a wiring harness for everything to fit. As far as the bulbs themselves, you'd want to get rebased ones with the H11 base, or else they won't actually fit into the headlamp. Otherwise, thats pretty much all you'd need, and you can probably end up getting it all for cheaper than what they were selling the kit for.
A wiring harness would be like this:
With slight differences, as this pic is for wiring bi-xenon.
EDIT: I think the only other thing you'd need to do would be to splice an H11 connector in place of the D2S connector off of the ballast, I suppose...

Are you trying to make your own or buy...if you want to buy a premade one..look at le05's post. IF you wanna make your own just buy some audio wire, a relay. which they also probably would carry. Depends what type connections you want to use..but most stuff that is needed for the wire harness is available at an audio shop.
