5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 07 Camry SE V6. Every morning when I start it and drive out, within the first 60 feet of driving it, there's a weird "clunk". It seems like its coming from the front, like a gear is jumping off its spot or something. Maybe it's the parking brake? It only happens when I start it and drive it, it never occurs later on. Any ideas if this would be a TSB or anything? My car is only 200 miles old, so might be a new break-in thing. I'd probably ask the dealer a bit later about it.

I believe this is an automatic test of the ABS system. It is normal

Open Note to Self: After this one of many posts about 2007 Camry's:
*weird and crappy engineering touches (no ATF dipstick),
*designed-in defects (throttle-by-wire and dont forget, coming soon, STEERING-by-wire!!!!)
*and now a loud clunk sound that is considered normal,
*To name only a few,
i'm starting to wonder just when Ford engineers invaded Toyota and apparently forced all the good toyota engineers into retirement or perhaps even jobs as rick-shaw drivers. Wondering if Camrys after 2006 are any good - already considering Honda and nissan for next car -

On what page does it say this? On another thread, someone replied it was an automatic test of the VSC system.
Seriously... they should just have a section called "Don't worry, this action/sound is normal"... and they would file Drive-by-wire, ABS or VSC self tests, etc..

You might as well add the following to your list of ridiculous "notes to self":
* can hear gearshift lever make noise when choosing gears
* can hear window go up and down when used
* fuel injectors tick when engine is running
* ABS makes noise when the pump is engaged preventing wheel lockup
* air makes noise when fuel cap is removed
ALL of those things are considered normal too!
Imagine that...
Then there's the fact that the cars are sealed so well that it's harder to close a door when all the others are shut and the windows are up. That seemed to piss off alot of people too.

Lets not forget the clicking sound the steering wheel makes when the turn signal is engaged and you're making a turn.. GOD that annoys the hell out of me!!!
You know what I cant stand? Songs coming through the damn speakers, Now THAT is the most annoying part!

My 2003 Highlander has the clunk sound after the ABS system is checked. That is normal.
