5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Did you guys see the upcoming 2008 Accord sedan? I think it's boring...very Sonata like...I was holding off from buying the Camry in hopes the Accord had something special but I guess not...
After i bought my Cam i had doubts and thought i should had waited cuz the accord my look better. But im Glad i aint wait wouldve been a waste of time for Toyota
What do you mean it looks like a Hyundai???... it was Huyndai that copied Honda. This is the evolution honda. Don't know why they took cues from their butt ugly ridgeline though. To me, seems Camry and Accord exteriors have reversed.... Camry became sporty looking while Accord stayed safe and has a generic looking exterior. Don't know about drive experience, Honda likes to go the sporty route.
Reminds me a bit like the Opel from europe and the Saturn ION sedan.

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.
--Can honestly go to a parts counter and ask for brake shoes for the front brakes.
--Likes long walks on the beach.... once it's lit by a massive bonfire.
You really can never tell "exactly" what the final product will look like from a "spyshot."
Yeah, I bet it is close... But come brochure time that thing will look a bit different once all the "packages" are put together.
Another thing... Ever see something in a picture that totally turned you off only to see it in person and have it totally turn you on?
Honda will sell a ton of them... And if they start using cylinder shutdown systems that work on already pretty miserly engines, they'll be 3 steps ahead of Toyota, especially if they can offer mileage and 280HP in a V6.
Sorry to say... But as fugly as it may seem, I see the Accord as possibly knocking Camry down a few notches with regard to...
1. Bargain
2. Fuel Economy
3. Reliability
Even more unfortunate... I think Toyota thought they'd kill with the Camry, it now appears they're caught with their pants down if Honda rules the above. Toyota will soon be scrambling to catch up?
I actually think the Honda Accord (used to be) a much better looking car and i considered one. (although from your pictures the 08 is a pretty ugly car alright, reminds me of a Hyundai). But when i shopped for my latest car in 2005, there weren't as many comparable Hondas, the V6 models were even harder to find, and they cost a couple grand more. So i grabbed the first decent V6 Cam i found.
Judging by the bugs and glitches and recalls the new generation Camry has been having (according to the posts here), and the stupid throttle-by-wire crap that Toyota insisted on putting on and that does nothing extra but break faster- if i were shopping for this generation Camry id seriously consider Honda or Nissan Altima as well as Camry.
I like the front, but I don't like the back. Accords are nice but I don't like the way Hondas ride - they're meant to be sporty but all it does is make every imperfection in the road all too apparent in the cabin. My aunt has a 2004 Accord and after riding in my car and a friend's car ('02 Camry V6) she herself said the Camry has a better ride.
To me, you can't go wrong with an Accord, Altima, or Camry.. It just comes down to brand preference.
BTW, that 'Advanced VTEC' sounds interesting.. It'd be neat to run on 4 cylinders in the city and for highway cruising - buttttt there has to be some kind of sport mode which locks it in 6 cylinders.

the headlights look old schoolish. projectors are the way to go. hopefully they'll offer their highest trim with it. taillights reminds me of a Saturn Ion. hopefully it looks better in person. the size looks slightly bigger than the outgoing model. Interior should be improve on this one, coz IMO i dont like the interior on their current model looks sooo old school. especially the speedometer.
The Accord appears to be quite bigger than it's current '07 one from the spy photos.
However, the Camry still looks 100X better.
I agree, the '08 Accord is still dull looking.
It use to be the Accord was more sporty looking than the Blend Camry but not the roles are reversed. Now, who is copying who???
I wonder if Accord fixed their noisy issue inside.
I did test drive the Accord before the Camry purchase and I would say handling with Double wishiing suspension was excellent but road noise, looks, and roominess convinced me that Camy is King.
The '07 Accord rear is butt ugly IMO. They just can't seen to design a rear of the Accord to like ones back in the '96....
I did have a '96 Accord before also.. love it then.. 160K miles no problems.

Just my 2 cents
camry is still the best for me. toyota too. we've been with toyota for the past 4 years. now. we all used to be honda but when we first got the '05 camry my family fell in love with it and then came the '06 corolla then the '07 camry replacing the '05
