hey guys ive been talking on my car audio forum about the reinstallation of my system into my gen 5.5 and one guy suggested to use A pillar gauge pods to fab up tweeter positions.. so my question is who here with a 5/5.5 has gauge pods, and where did u get them?
if no one has gauge pods, who here has wired a system and what tweeter and woofer positions did you use? thanks!
I used the stock tweeter placement. It works great for positioning in that the sound is aimed at the winshiled and boucned to my face. I'm considering ditching the sub to make my car a a 3way system. I was going to keep everythign in stock location. BUt i gotta find a midd bass small enough so i can place in the door and keep the factory look.
how does it look in the dash? what did u use to mount your tweeter in that stock location? and did your replace your front door speakers? i have 6.5" components that fit well from my old cam but this one has 6x9's all around..
Yea i had baffles made, since i don't have the resources to make them myself, for the 6x9's. I'm using 6.5 boston pro 60's(for sale*wink wink*). And baflles were made to fit the old tweeter location so that i could place the tweets there.
I placed my tweeters about 1 1/2" away from the door handle, b/c the refaction of sound by the windshield was not my taste in sound.
Below is what i did to make a pair of Boston FS60 fit in the 6x9 Location. I would recomend using foam speaker baffles to bring up the midbass and reduce vibrations in the door.
Hey Web26 I would recomend putting in kick pannels for the bass. Since bass is not directional like mids and highs, you will defenetly get the effect you are looking for.
Most people make their baffles with MDF. BUt they place foam behind the speaker for good midd bass. What is also widely used is non-hardening molding clay, which i place at the perimeter of the baffle to keep the baffle tight to the door. Also...i notice there as no sond deadening besides that dynamat around the speaker. to get the desrired sound...sounddeadening to the inside layer fo the door and te exterior would help. And then foaming the outside of the last layer of sound deadening helps.
Dj-torn: IF mid bass is not directional then why would i need to put in a kick panel? I'm just curious, cuz i would rather not have kick panels. IMHO, they downgrade the look of the overall look of my car, but thats just me. Pus it takes away room for my dead pedal and it would be a tight squeze for my clutch pedal. I was looking at the focal utopia be mid bass, or the seas mid bass
You can always get one custom made. Buy some universal gauge pods and mold it onto your OEM A-pillar. Once your done, get it repainted. Now you will have a guage pod pillar that has perfect oem fitment.
yea thats a possibility also.. a bit more work than i want.. plus i wanted my car to look as oem as possible.. but we will see.. im anxious to install my system again!! just gotta wait until school is over..
It's better to have a full replacement a-pillar guage pod then buy to those universal gauge pods and screw them into your stock a-pillar. Molding is the only way to go for the complete OEM look and fitment.
oh yea i totally understand that.. im just thinking out my options right now.. and if Mr. Marv can make me baffles and a place to mount my tweeter, i would def go with that.. i prefer off axis sound over on axis
