XM Radio in 07 SE

Just took delivery of my 07 SE I-4.. The car as the stock radio (non-JBL) and I want to put XM Radio in the car. Is the non-JBL unit XM-compatable? The JBL unit has a "SAT" button and the stock one does not. I'm aware that I have to purcahse the tuner and antenna from Toyota, but am not sure if I will have to change radios. Please advise...

According to the 'Features and Prices' section on toyota.com it looks like the non-JBL stereo is not satelite radio capable.

Stock Radio Description:
"AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary audio jack, six speakers and in-glass antenna"

JBL Description:
"JBL® AM/FM 6-disc in-dash CD changer with satellite radio capability, MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary audio jack, hands-free phone capability via Bluetooth® wireless technology, eight speakers in six locations and FM diversity reception"

Unless Toyota has decided not to publish the capability of the stock stereo in order to persuade more people to upgrade to the JBL system I am going to guess that the stock system can't handle it.

Yes it is blue. Everything is identical except the missing "SAT" button.

If you don't see the SAT next to AM, it is not compatible

Since you didn't specifically ask, I'll assume you didn't know this answer, but your lack of SAT button only means you can't have integrated XM with your stock head-unit where you can use your head unit and steering wheel controls. Don't bother buying the Toyota kit (or an aftermarket kit like TERK XM-Direct) because it won't be compatible with your system.

However, there is nothing to prevent you from enjoying XM radion in your car by getting a standalone XM receiver and attaching it to your car in one of two ways:
- plug the headphone output of the XM receiver into the AUX outlet in your car, then you hit the AUX button on your head unit.
- Buy a XM receiver that has FM modulation. Essentially, the XM receiver broadcasts a very low FM signal, usually in the 89-91 frequency. You then "tune in" this station on your FM dial, no different than receiving any other FM broadcast.
