5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just picked up my car form Fujita Air where they installed the Cold Air intake on my 07 Camry I4. They used my car as the prototype.
The intake made 5.5 whp over stock. 123 whp stock and 129 whp with intake. It has a very nice deep tone. When you get on it, you can scare the crap out the cars around you, it sounds mean. I even got a duffle bag and Nos energy drink.
Looks like pretty good gains...... if it's apples to apples.
But I'd like to know more about how they dynoed the car. Did they heat soak the car, make 3 runs back to back and take the avg. stock vs. with the intake? Making sure all runs were conducted at approx. the same IAT (intake air temp.) and coolant temps? No timing retard for whatever reason between runs (scan tool hook up look for the computer retarding timing).
The humidity, baro pressure and temperature look different, run to run... so was the car dynoed on different days? or was it the same day back to back testing? And where you present when they dynoed the car?
Companies are in the market to show HP gains as they of course want to sell product.
I've been around a dynojet for many hours... so I know all the tricks in the book to give one more HP run to run with NO CHANGES at all!
E.g.
1. Before run hood was down no huge fan on vs. hood up with fan on
2. IAT Temp cooler on second run (ice on the intake for the second run)
3. Before run was dynoed when the coolent temps is 10+ degrees warmer than the after run
or any combo of all three above.
Anyhow, looks like it made more Torque and HP the complete RPM range, other than something funny happen 3600 rpms to 3900 rpms. (notices the numbers revert back to stock)
The torque is more important than the HP, I'm impressed with the area under the curve for both. At the track you'll probably pick up a tenth and about 1 mph in the 1/4 .
Not raining on your parade as I hope it really made those numbers, cause that's pretty good for just an intake swap. I'd like to see a independent or individual (not manu. tested results) dyno results following the exact same conditions for both tests.
rsjyss, sorry don't know about the dyno questions you have. I was not there when they did the testing. I just dropped off the car and then picked it up and that is what they told me the results were. I can send them an email and ask, or you could do the same.
Damn everyone must have a hole burning in their pocket! Everyone wants to buy without independant dyno testing etc.
I remember when I was younger... I didn't have enough $$$ to buy a performance mod, figure out later it made ZERO HP improvement (other than looks and sound) then change to another one. Well actually could have afforded it but want to spend the $$ wisely and only once!
You know how many times I've seen people swap mods cuase it didn't make the manufacturers claims! Don't believe everything you read in the magazines and especially if it's a manufacterurs claim!

As for the V6, they told me that the prototype is done for that car, but they are looking for a NON CVT model to do the dyno testing.
Cool.. thanks for the answer! Didn't mean to 2nd guess everything and make you feel bad about your mod! Kit looks good and like you said... sounds much deeper and gives it a much better growl/note.
rsjyss, no worries. I am just glad to see this company is putting in the time to do the testing the right away and find out what works best for our cars. Most place will put some crap together and sell it with out any testing.
For you V6 guys, I got this response from Fujia by email:
"We actually have the prototype made but we need to find a new test vehicle to finish the testing. We are looking for a V6 with NO CVT. If you know somebody that is local to Temecula, have them email mark@f5air.com. We will only need the car for 2 hours. After we conduct testing, that person will get the first production piece for free (3-4 weeks after their visit)."
