5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have decided to modify the exhaust on my new Camry. Since my previous car was an 07 IS350 with a Tanabe exhaust, I'm considering buying the system for the IS and modifying it to fit my Camry. It is actually very close, but the mufflers are shorter by about 2" and the Y-pipe is a little different. Simple mods. My other option would be to add 2 stainless steal Magnaflow mufflers with Magnaflow tips, just replacing existing mufflers. Quote for just replacing was $350 + tax. The Tanabe system will run about $600 plus mods and install. Does anyone have any opinions or other ideas? The Tanabe sounded awesome on my Lexus and I have not heard the Magnaflows.
I worked for Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Texas, the IS was great in Texas. When I moved back to Indiana in March, we had 12" of snow on the ground.....not much fun in the IS. Also, the rear seat leg room is non-existant in the IS....not good for my daughter.
What about a Borla catback? I thought I heard a rumor about some East coast dealers being able to get and install a Borla catback for 07 V6's. I had heard it was a dealer installed exhaust? What happened to that?

I love the look of the exhaust, nice choice. when do you plan to install? Do you think the tips would fit the stock LE cut-outs? I tested fitted the Tanabe under an SE, it looked like the only issue was the mufflers were a little shorter than the stock ones. I think you could adjust for the length when you make the cut on the main pipe coming back to add the flange for connecting the system. Can't wait to see the results. Where did you get the HKS system?
I got the exhaust from the vendor MVPmotorsports from ClubLexus.com. Install is hopefully next week since I don't have my Camry with me. I think the Tanabe tips should fit the stock exhaust openings, but not the HKS. I was going to take a pic and post it in my thread of the HKS tips with the SE rear lip at a member's request. But like you stated previously, only slight modifications should really be needed to make the exhaust fit.
Winter tires would've helped the snow issue, but the back seat issue was a pain. Also, insurance through State Farm was unreal. Awesome car, great power, loved the paddle shifters, maybe another in the future. For now, make the most out of my camry...haha
ya... I feel ya on the insurance... it's hard enough for me, being a young'n... camry's a nice car by all means and I've been in the backseat of an IS... they might as well have made it a 2 door (there are some rare limited edition 2 doors out there)
