Gen6 Trade in value impact

I'm wondering what the impact is on trade in value for a V6 Camry that has had the transmission replaced. Is there any? Does this information need to be disclosed when trading in? My Camry is scheduled for a replacement and I'm wondering if I shopuld do it or not based on trade in value?

Thanks,

Bob

You would want to disclose this sort of thing in the same way you would want to disclose a replaced alternator or water pump. It's a mechanical component, covered under manufacturer warranty, found to be defective and replaced. It does not afect the drivability or value of the car. Getting rearended at a stop light by a drunken and wild-eyed moron is the sort of stuff you would want to disclose.

Now having said that, the short term resale value of the entire series might be negatively impacted by the commonality of the transmission problem among so many if not all of the cars manufactured during this model year.

I traded in my Mazda 6 with a tranny issue... in fact the same one that the Camry's are facing... but I never really told them. They drove it around and said it was fine. They gave me a price over the kbb value, so I was cool with it.

A V6 XLE with 7000 miles and nop trans problem has a trade in value of $21500 according to KBB and probably a $1000 less with the Galves book used in the NYC metro area..
That's a pretty good hit on a $30+K sticker price.

if you trede in at a dealer I would not mention anything.

they can search the toyota database and find out about all repairs under warranty.

usually the mgr drives the car and gives the ok for a trade in.

so dont say anything unless asked.

if you sell it to a private party then I go ahead and disclose all repairs done to the car.

Do you think that has to do with quality issues or is it just the general hit from sticker to used?

Its a general hit, trade it low, dealer sells 2k to 3k lower than a new one. Dealer makes money.
