Low hanging muffler a big problem!!

On my 03 LE, I had 3 folks about 160 lbs each and a 225 lbs guy in the front. Apparently the low hanging muffler was even lower to the ground resulting in it scraping on the floor if I went over a bump..

Since all the gen 5's are like this, is there some sort of modification that can be done to correct this problem?

Get shorter exhaust hangers. Or you can even use hose clamps to bring the exhaust closer to the chassis.

Use hose clamps to bring the exhaust closer to the chassis.....that was exactly what the installer did to my car when he added the second exhaust. So now when you stand from the back of my car....you don't see the muffler pipe hanging down low like a normal Camry does. If you want close up pictures just click on my car site.

I'm going to have to do the same thing since my HKS muffler is so big.

I thought it was the exhaust pipe that was low to the ground and not the muffler itself

Where can I get these clamps. Sounds like just exactly what I need.

Is this something I can just bring to my mechanic and have him install for me?

The hose clamps I'm reffering to are the ones used to hold hoses onto the radiaterfor example. These are the old school type with worm gears and an angularly slotted strap that come in different lengths and widths to fit the diameter hose you're using. You can get them at any auto store. In this case they there to put around the rubber exhaust hangers to raise the lower side to the same height as the higher side. Some people are also using them to keep the exhaust from bouncing too much.

The low hanging exhaust pipe (not the muffler) is not really that big of a problem. No one ever posts any problems associated with it. Me, personally, have never had a problem with it. It just looks a little awkward at first. If you have a lot of people in the car and you go over a moderate to big sized dip, you are probably going to scrape. If your car is always going to be loaded with people like that, you should have gotten a RAV4 or other SUV.

yea, the muff and the low hanging exh pipe

suck, i hate the way it looks.

to me it shows toyota just throws it cars together without any tought in actual looks.

they just want to build them and sell them.

no concern with aestetics.
