5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello, I have a 2007 Camry I4, and the Tire Pressure light came on. I took it in and they checked out the pressure, added some etc, reset it all good. This week again it came on, so I'm not sure what is going on with it. I am going to take it in since I need to get an oil change anyways, but is this a frequent case for everyone? I was told that it is very sensitive and that Nitrogen would be a good option, however I don't think I need Nitrogen to get rid of this problem. I checked the tire pressure this morning and it was about 30 in all 4 tires. Any other ideas?
My second question is .. that I wished I'd bought a V6 instead of the I4, so do you think its possible to go back to the dealer and ask for a trade-in sort of thing, or am I just crazy? Do they do that? I have about 9500 miles on it and bought the car in Nov '06. Any comments suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you
The only time that I had a problem with the light was the first day I owned the car and it came on indicating low pressure. The tire was going flat, and the reason was a porous aluminum casting. The dealer had to find and replace thw wheel.
30 pounds is a little low for me and I keep them closer to 33-34 pounds. My experience is that they have less rolling resistance and last longer if they are inflated to this range. Check your manual for correct pressure, but I think 30 is a little low.
The dealer will be happy to take your old Camry in trade on a new Camry. That's what they do for a living, but they will low ball the trade in value. Start by looking at kbb.com for the trade value and if you have a CarMax near you, go in for as estimate. It will give you some basis for discussion when it comes to trade value. Be prepared though to grab your ankles. The first year is the worst in terms of depreciation, so be aware, and do your homework next time, huh? This could be a costly error.

The TPM light hasnt happened to me, and it hasnt even come on after driving 200 miles on my new rims and tires.
As for trading it in, like gdanaher said, the dealer would be happy to do it, but trade-in values are always alot lower then then retail or private party value. My car with 1200 miles cost me $23K new, but the trade-in value fromk KBB said it was only around $20K.

If your light continues to come on after adjusting pressure and resetting, I would check for a slow leak.
You could ask for a trade in, but don't expect any special deal. In fact, expect to take a bath on the trade in value. THe dealer can't sell your car as new anymore, so they wouldn't just "take it back". You would have to trade it in as a normal car sale. Depending on how much you owe on the car, you might be in good shape.

I'm keeping an informal tally of all the glitches and problems in 2007 Camry that really shouldnt be there - why did we buy camrys in the first place - reliability, of course! So where has it gone! Somehow im not sad i only have a 2002 with 95k on the clock...
KNOWN GLITCHES as reported by user posts:
1. " Drive by wire" glitches (see "Drive by wire is driving me off a cliff!"). My take: Unecessarily complex, adds weight, lots of future problems and no real benefit
2. Clunk from transmission within 50 feet of when car first starts. Said to be ABS kicking in. The clunk is said to be - NORMAL!
3. No ATF dipstick. No easy way to change ATF without special shop tools. Because toyota says "the ATF is good for the life of the car". (Yeah right - why change the ATF when you can just change the trans at 125k instead)
4. transmission/engine hesitation issues of 1 to 2 seconds. Great for those left hand turns in front of oncoming traffic.
5. Tire- air- level -monitoring glitches. (see #1). I sure was getting sick and tired of that tiresome chore of checking my tire pressure once a month. Dont know how i'll get by without this amazing new development. Guess i'll have to cause i wont be buying a 2007 Camry. ever. Maybe they will make it right for 2009 if not, then no more Cams for me - Nissan or honda will be my choice. In the meantime, i'll drive the 02 til the wheels fall off.
Thank you all for your replies. I took it in for the 3rd time and guess what.. they actually found a nail in it .. only after taking the car in thrice ..the size ..even I could have found it.. some service huh! Anyways charged me to get it fixed, so had to get it done, since we were leaving on a road trip the next morning. No TPM light problems since *knock on wood*. Thanks again!
