5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've noticed on occassion that when I accelerate my V6 Camry that there is a significant delay between pushing the gas pedal and the car actually responding. This is especially true when I'm driving at about 40 - 45 MPH and floor it to get into a hole in the traffic. Sometimes the car just doesn't go right away. Other times the engine will rev and the transmission will downshift and then the car will go. This delay from pushing the pedal to actual acceleration can be any where from 1-2 seconds. It's not a huge delay, it just seems like it should just go, but doesn't.
Is this something others are experiencing? My transmission is being replaced today due to the flare problem and I wonder if the two are related.
My friend that actually works at the Local Toyota dealer just got an '07 LE V6. He has the same issue. He is getting the ECU reflashed with an updated program that should fix the issue. Tell your local dealer the issue, and they should do the same thing without any issues.

Thanks, I'll mention this to the dealer. Do you know if there is an associated TSB for this?
The same thing happens with my car, seems like it's "thinking" which gear it should go in to get the most power. If you are able to get a re-flash, make sure to post back and tell us if it worked!
Maybe this will help. I just foinf it while looking for other stuff, ahha.
Thanks for the link. I saw this on the board and wonder if it would help my problem(s). However, this one is for the TCM and you mentioned the ECU. Maybe your friend knows if there is a TSB for the ECU......wow, thats a lot of intitials...

It's interesting that you mention thinking, it does seem as though the car can't quickly decide what to do and ponders things for a while.
My car does this too. I have the new tranny. Maybe the reflash will help... who knows. After 8 trips to the dealer I'm not particularly confident in Toyota's ability to solve a problem.

Bob, sorry about that. I mean to put TCM. NOT ECU. Sorry.
