Is this a sign of the notorious flare?

Well what do you know, I started watching my tachometer when I leave the house in the afternoon, and i've been noticing a slight flare up.

Once it starts, does it get worse, or does it just stay like that for a while? It's only a few hundred RPM's, so I can live with that since it only happens once, but if it's going to get worse i'll have to start paying more attention to it and may visit the dealer.

Heres a video I made, the flare you see is from 3>4.

Yup. You got it. Try letting your car warm up a bit more. But your flare seems to be minimal.

I don't know what usually happens as time progresses but mine has gone away without any visits to the dealer. Maybe due to the warmer climate?

dude that's nothing... my 03 flares more than that all the time... you should consider yourself lucky, the one you got looks flawless.... honestly all the people who complain about shift flares and hesitation on the 07's are just being way finicky... if anything, toyota improved the drive-by-wire immensly with the 07's, they're so smooth compared to the gen 5's... like seriously the hesitation on the gen 5's is like 10 times worse, and shift flares constantly, the throttle is jerky, and the car always lunges... when you take it into toyota the just tell you the car's running the way it was designed to, which is BS... since they were able to improve it for the 07's, now they should address the issue for the gen 5's....

My Camry does the exact same thing, usually just in the morning after the car has been parked all night. It only does it once and drives and shifts flawlessly after that. Car has 5K miles on it and a build date of 3/07.

Here's a video of mine.

http://www.ori.net/edporch/U660Eflare1.wmv

It typically does this 3rd-4th slip (flare) once after each engine start, then seems to operate normally.
My main concern is that this is going to get worse.

Works for me...try doing a right click on the link and select "Save Target As"...this way you'll just download the file to your computer and should be able to launch it without a problem.

The link works for me also.

And I though Toyota fixed the problems.

Geoff5093,

What's your built date?

I'll have to check on the build date, but I bought it about 3 weeks ago.

And do the RPM's flare up higher when theres more load on the engine? Because I was going down a hill when I made that video, so I was barely pressing on the gas. If I went up the hill, would that makea difference?

Answering my own question here, but it doesnt seem like engine load makes a difference on the size of the flare-up. I just drove up our hill and it seemed to be about the same.

Heres a sort video of me just going from 3rd to 4th gear:

The flare is noticable, but doesnt seem as bad as others around here. I'm fine with this for now, as long as it doesnt get much worse.

So far your flare doesn't seem that bad, but.....doesn't it seem odd that it didn't have the flare and no it does? That's the part that gets me, I didn't see any flare until 900 miles - what changed?

Same, probably when I had under 1000 miles, I didnt notice the flare. Now I seem to.

So im really wondering if the flare will stay like this, or if it will become worse with time. Perhaps it will actually cure itself and go away, who knows.

Not only V6's have this problem. My 07 I4 LE is doing it also. Mine is 2-3 though I believe. It is about like the one posted above. The colder the car and the colder the weather the worse it is for me.

My flare didn't start until about 1200 miles.
Pulled out of my driveway one day, and it suddenly appeared.
I haven't got a clue why it took that long to happen.
