Gen6 07 camry Radio buttons too bright !! Here is a fix

If you have enough patience, you can do this. Open up the radio and put black touch up paint on 3/4 of the surface area of each LED along the side, there are 4 each side. This is a pic with 1/2 done and it was still a bit bright. so I opened it up again, it takes time, and lots of patience. Worth it though , maybe. If you are smarter than me, you can find the illumination wire back there (green/silver) harness/connector closest to driver, wire closest to driver again....up top (above blue/yellow wire) and stick a pot or resistor or whatever the heck....As for a/c lights, dont bother, it is almost impossible.

Sure, only problem is that the dimmer dims the dash (speedo/instrument cluster) also, so to make the radio tolerable, you need to really crank the dash lights down too low ....I will try to get a pic of the effect tonight, I spent WAAAAYYYYY tooooo long f*ing with that thing last night

you must have really sensative eyes, Even set on the brightest, my stock stereo wasn't too bright for me at all. And if you set it so it dims with the headlights, it's perfect for me.

I did not mind it too much, I bought the car for my dad, he had cataract surgery and is susseptible to glare...it bothered him. if you do a search there is about 6 threads on the thing being too bright for some, it is pretty bright if set at the brigthest level, point is you should not have to dim your instrument cluster sooo much to reduce the radio brightness
