5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2007 Camry XLE. It has the standard two power outlets - one in the box under the radio, and one on the console in front of the armrest. I have problems with both of those locations. I end up with cords dangling all over the place. I would like to put one inside the storage compartment of the armrest since its more convenient to keep gadgets in there while they're charging. Has anyone done this?
Easy, Go buy an outlet, Wire center pin to a Positive wire, Side housing to Negative. Cut hole to mount outlet.

Do most automotive supply stores carry these outlets or would I be better off getting it from toyota? Are there different ones or are they pretty much all the same?
You can pick them up in most automotive stores some are cheap and some might have different styles but basically all teh same concept. Toyota might also have oem ones.
Orrr , sry just hafta do this, use a paperclip, some gum, a shoelace and a bottlecap MacGyver

you can always get those 3-way outlets that plug into one of your original ones. Ive done that with the console in the front and hide it with the door.
^^^ Good point, I didnt mean to leave that important element out. Thanks R07M!

I've got 4 outlets from one ; I have a 2007 CE manual and it only comes with one outlet in the dash and none in the arm rest ; I have a radar detector, Sirius satellite radio, GPS using a Dell Axim PDA and a cell phone charger....no problems what so ever...I've done my best to hide the wires as best as I can, and looks decent and very functional...will try to post a picture if I get a chance...go to Walmart...$ 12 bucks and you're all set !! no need to drill holes and screw up !!!
Thanks for all the suggestions. The electrical part of this seems pretty straight forward. Removing the various panels is always the tricky part. Getting them off without breaking them and getting them back on again can be a problem since there are ususally no instruciton for this in the owners manual and I don't want to break any locking tabs or damage the panels in the process. It seems to me that the best way to do this is to tap in through the forward wall of the arm rest storage bin to the console power outlet. Has anyone seen any photos or instructions on how to properly remove the plastic parts in this area so I can do the wiring? If not I'll just take my chances and start tugging on things ( carefully) but I just thought I'd ask.
Its easy, Just give all the parts a smooth tug, they will unhook.
