5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
New 2007 Camry LE V6 owner, some observations i've made
We bought this Camry 07 roughly a little less than two weeks ago. I've noticed some unusual things and i would appreciate your opinion on them.
1. Rattling from the left (driver door) and center. The dealership did take a look at the door issue and they realigned it. It's quieter, but still present.
2. A thuck sound every time we startup. This occurs after a cold start/and when we're accelerating. We notice this thuck sound when we're pulling out into the main street. I couldn't locate the point of origin.
3. This last issue is probably more severe then the other two. I've noticed that the car has a deep vibration. I am unable to recreate this problem (Happened 3 times already) though i've noticed it occurring on a straight away cruising at roughly 35-40 mph. The steering wheel doesn't shake. The tire pressures we're checked and they were only offer but 1-2 lbs, we adjusted them to 35lb each)

sounds like tranny noise. what does the dealer say?

I have a 4-cylinder 07 and have also noticed that "thump" sound on occasion. My thought is it has something to do with movement in the exhaust pipe. I believe it comes from the back of the car. I know I could never recreate the sound at the dealership.

I have noticed this thunk in my Camry as well. It's like something is loose in the trunk, but there is nothing loose. It happens with a near full tank of gas and then goes away. It seems to have something to do with the gas tank, but I'm not sure. Others have reported this as well. Here is a link to one of the discussions here: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t166622.html
The thump is a art of the ABS system, it is normal. It is basically like a "test" it performs on itself.
Most owners have the rattle in the b-pillar, im not sure if anyone has actually put a finger on the exact cause.

B-pillar noise is something that like 50% of Camry owners have. I also have creaking from the rear-right, front center dash rattle, front-right dash rattle, window squeaking, etc.

If this is the "thump" sound I'm thinking about, it probably occurs only when you have a full tank of gas.
I've heard a bit of rattling from the center dash, and the passenger seat, but it only happens on ocassion.
What I did notice is that the drivers side door and rear door are a tiny bit mis-alligned, and you can see that the chrome trim doesnt line up exactly.
man i'll tell ya, that american work ethic (who gives a fuck?)
In a way, maybe that's part of the reason. I think Toyota doesn't have a tight enough grip on Quality Control in their foreign plants.
We've had an X5, which is built in South Carolina, and now an ML500 which is built in Alabama (I think). Both ahve been assembled top-notch. It just goes to show that the German companies were more interested in maintaining their standard across the seas.

I would agree with the general comments on this thread and others, that quality seems to be an issue with the current Camry. I traded a 2000 Accord for the 07 Camry and there are times when I regret it.
The dash squeaks and creaks are truly annoying. I realize there may be fixes for them, however, why should we be dis-assembling our center consoles to repair it? Imagine what the interior may sound like in 5 years. My Accord had 175000KM on it and the interior was "tighter".
The variety of hard plastics and poor design in the interior may just lead me to trade this back on the 08 Accord.

Wow! 2000 Accord had 175K on it. You sure drive a lot!!!
If you're not happy with it then trade it with 08 Accord. Just be careful as you might make a same mistake as you are buying a car at it first year of production. I would suggest wait for the 2nd year of production as they usually work out all the bugs.
Good luck.

I haven't had any problems with my '07 it wasa demo, about a year old, I have had it for a month and have had no issues with it, no noises no shifting problems or anything. To me the materials used in it seem no different from the ones used in my mom's '04 Sienna.
And as for the transmission issues when I bought my car I asked the sales woman about the transmission issues and she said she had heard nothing and then took me to talk to one of the mechanics and he said they haven't had to replace any transmissions he did say that some people didn't like the way it accelerated but that had to do with the VSC and how they drove the car.
