Im not 100% sure, but I believe you can just unplug the negative power cable from the battery for a few minutes.

While sitting in driver's seat
1- set parking brake
2- turn key to first position
3- if seat is electric, slide all the way back
4- press brake pedal 10 times and hold down on last press
5- put car tranny in D and then back to P (if manual tranny, skip step)
6- reset trip odomoeter
7- turn headlights on and then off 3 times
8- turn key back to off position
9- release hood latch
10- exit car and disconnect negative battery cable for approx. five minutes
11- reconnect battery cable and lower hood, latching it closed
ECU should be reset!

Most people could probably just start on step 9

Well I know doing that pretty much resets everything, which is why after doing that the car idles a bit harsh at first, and the first several miles feel a bit different, since it's programming itself over again with new data.

Although a funny joke, that's not too far off from the procedure for changing the auto door lock settings for the Gen 5 Camry. I recall having to open and close the door multiple times, flip the key to and fro, wiggle the lock button a few times, etc., in a bizarre sequence.

Seriously, though, the ECU cannot be completely reset by just pulling the battery cable. It's necessary to use the Intelligent Tester tool.
