XM install guide

I'm taking my JBL audio system and XM kit to a local audio shop tomorrow to replace my non-XM stock system. I want to give the installlers as much info as I can to help with the install. Is there an XM kit installation guide anywhere? The dealer I purchased the kit from did not provide one.
If not, can anyone with XM tell me where the tuner is located? (under seat?)
Thanks.

Tuner, hope you kit has one!

Instructions say it goes in the trunk but some have put behind the dash.

Use the search engine.

Well, let me help you a bit more than our friend njerald has, eh?

I recall finding a PDF copy online a while back -- took me less time to do a quick Google search than it took njerald to type "use the search engine." Check it out here:

http://www.toyotapart.com/product.as...160812&cID=137

The Toyota XM unit is designed to go in the trunk, on the passenger side behind the trunk liner. But, you'd better have a "fit kit" to do that -- one of the things you can check out here:

http://www.toyotapart.com/search.asp...&Submit=Search

Otherwise, I expect any competent shop could mount the thing somewhere behind the center stack, no problem.

I wrote up a bunch of stuff over in the TundraSolutions Camry section -- check it out here:

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...2007-camry-xm/

And, dig through GreenHybrid.com's Camry Hybrid forum for XM info -- someone posted pictures of how they took apart the center stack to get behind the radio.

And, of course, the JBL amp goes under the passenger seat.

Hope this helps -- good luck with the install!

I went to the audio shop today and was told i needed to get harnesses for all the speakers and that the whole car would have to be rewired.. he said is was atleast a 6 hour job. Does this sound right? Here's what I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...0407967&rd=1,1

Yeah, I could see that the installer could be 100% correct. The JBL system is completely different from stock in so many ways, it could have entirely different wiring throughout the car. I don't know how installing the wiring would take all that much longer than installing the whole system, though -- it's going to take some effort to get to all of the different speakers and such to begin with. Seems to me it would still be worth the effort, unless the wiring you'd have to buy is insanely expensive.

Good luck!

I had bought my XM unit with the car and had the dealer install it a week later when they had the parts and people to do so. It took longer than expected, and when I asked the service rep why it was taking so long, he replied it was a more complex install than they had forseen. With the JBL radio, he mentioned they had to take out the backseats to get to install the receiver... I was like .... just as long as they got it back together and functioning properly, I'd be happy. You have my blessings in getting it installed outside of the dealer.

I'll start by saying I am not an audio person by any stretch.
The installation of the XM tuner and antenna is not the problem. It actually is not too difficult- its just time consuming. The problem I have is this: I purchased the 07 Toyota Camry JBL radio system (amp, speakers, and radio unit) to replace the stock radio that came with the car. I need to get the JBL system installed. I need to know if the speakers are interchangable or do I need to purchase new wiring harnesses and have the entire car rewired. If anyone knows anything about this or had the same thing done please reply or PM me. I've been in this pickle for 2 weeks now..

i'm probably wrong about this... but couldn't the installer just swap out the connectors on the speakers so the stock speaker harness is on the jbl speaker? it's the harness that goes to the headunit that sounds like it's going to be a nightmare... 6 hours doesn't sound like he's trying to rip you off... that's some time consuming work...

The radio unit itself swaps right out. I need to get an amp kit for te amp, which goes under the passanger seat. My questions surround the 6 speakers. Will the JBL speakers swap out with the stock speakers? Do I need new wiring harnesses for the JBL speakers? Does the car need to be rewired as the audio shop suggested (he was not positive)
Please help...
