Transmission Replacement for Shift Flare on 2007 V6 Camry
I had my transaxle assembly replaced at the beginning of May and so far the car has had no problems at all. Prior to the replacement, we were experiencing the 3rd to 4th gear flare and the occasional flare with downshifting. It took me a while to accept that our car really was messed up, but finally we took it to the dealership and showed them the TSB. We had no problems dealing with the service team and everything was covered. In fact, the first transmission they ordered and installed was bad and they had to order another one which took a week to receive and install, but they let us borrow a car (2007 Camry XLE) while the repairs were made.
So, our car has had 3 transmissions, but at least my wife has a dependable vehicle now...it appears. Good luck to those of you have the problem. It is not nearly as bad as I anticipated and I was very happy with the service and communication involving our car. While the whole ordeal is annoying, Toyota really helped and got the problem fixed for us. We have put about 2500 miles on it since the replacement and it is running fine.

did you get the latest TSB done? with the reflash??
I don't think there was anything with a reflash because I just found out about that yesterday on this forum.
thanks. keep following the threads to find out about this reflash. if there is another flare issue with your new transmission, consider the reflash. i am not sure if it completely works, but for now, good luck with your new trans since you have no problems. keep us updated.
Since the transaxle replacement, our Camry has not had any more transmission problems. As far as I know there was nothing involving a reflash and the only TSB was TC002-07. Currently, we have around 22,000 miles on the car and everything has been great except for the bad transmission.
From the results of our case, I would say that Toyota has been able to identify and correct the problems.

If Toyota fixed the problem, new cars (built in the last month) wouldn't be having the flare--see other current flare threads about this problem. As may be obvious due to my recent postings, I'm not happy about my POS car. If I had the money, I'd sell or trade it in, but I can't afford the loss.

you could be right, i haven't really kept up with it much since we got ours fixed. i hope you get it figured out. i just figured if they could fix ours, why couldn't they have the new one without flaws?

The reason that they can't have new ones w/o the flare is that they have NO clue what is wrong. They are getting lucky that some work properly (or unlucky that they don't know what is wrong with the bad ones). I'd think a billion-dollar company like Toyota would figure out this problem with their number one selling car...very disappointing!

bjmn7d, by the way, how many miles do you have on your latest tranny? I got about 2200 miles on my new tranny before I experienced the flare again. ;-(

If you think they haven't/aren't trying you shoudl Google TQM, Six Sigma, Kazai and Lean Manufacturing along with Toyota and see their commitment to the process. Then reconsider whether or not their is a major RCA investigation either under way or completed.
I'm sorry you are having the problems that you are having (mine is showing the flare again as well) but don't think for one second that TMUSA isn't all over it trying to resolve the issue at it's core.

I'd think that after 18 months of the car being out (and over 1 year for sure of flares), they'd have this figured it--it can't be rocket science! I believe I read just yesterday another article about how Toyota's quality is tanking...it's sad to see them chase volume over quality...can't believe they didn't pay attention to GM/Ford (don't even think about blaming health care costs for those two having even crappier vehicles).

Not quite rocket science, but pretty close when you are chasing gremlins in complex compound systems. Not making excuses...but I know what it's like to look for the root cause, think you have it...only to find out the hard way that you didn't get deep enough or into the right hole.

I had the transmission firmware reflash done a couple of weeks ago, since the replacement transmission installed around Jan 07 had flares galore starting from when I drove it home from the dealer after it was installed. So far, I've only had one small 3-4 cold flare. All the other slipping is gone (for now). Now, when I hit the gas to accelerate quickly, the up-shifts are incredibly solid, quick, and firm. And, the wimpy hesitation when coasting at around 15 mph and thing hitting the gas is gone. Plus, that annoying engine-brake when coasting at around 30 mph seems to have been reduced significantly. Although not perfect, I'm pleased with the firmware update so far...

After the replacement flared they re-programmed it. It doesn't flare between 3rd/4th gear anymore but now it has an occassional flare between 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd. Go figure? Will complain about it the next visit which will be in another 2000 mi.
