What is it?

I have a '07 Camry Le. There's this small round thing on top of the dash approx. 3 inches from the winshield. I've looked at the owners manual from cover to cover and can't seem to find out what this thing is for. I'm curious as hell. Thx!

It's a sensor for the automatic headlamps. It measures how much light there is.

If you cover it and turn you headlights to automatic the lights will always come on.

Is it the black circular dot? If so that is the DRL sensor.

Daytime Running Lights sensor? Why would the DRL's need a sensor? They come on when the car is running.

There is no "DRL" sensor. There is a DRL "module" though.

The DRL module simply allows for the daylight running function to be turned on and off (by the dealer or other mechanic).

The black circle thing is a light sensor. On top of sending the appropriate signals as to when your main headlights are on and off, it also influences the backlight level of the instrument panel.

it's actually for the gauge lights and head unit lights... I noticed after I went under a tunnel... things would get darker ... and as I exit it'd get brighter...

It's the transceiver for communicating with the mother ship.
