5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just looking for fuel mileage numbers for the I4 as my wife is considering an I4 Camry as well as the Hybrid. She drives 75/25 highway/city. Thinking the hybrid will not provide that much better fuel mileage to justify the additional cost. We keep our vehicles 7-10 years typically.
If you have traffic in SC on the highway then yes get a Hybrid.
If no, then just get an I4. Also, there is an unknown factor that is not in our control.....
the price of gasoline! Obviously, as gas get more expensive (I only see it keep going up) then it takes less time for the Hybrid to paid for itself.

I get about 24-26 mpg but thats doing bout 80-90 on freeway and I do a 60 mile roundtrip drive everyday...
cruisn to sacramento I got about 34-36mpg I think If I remember my math right
Keep in mind I also have 19-inch wheels so it shifted my mpg a bit and im still get 24, I can live with that...

this is gonna seem like i'm beating a dead horse, but i strongly urge you to purchase a V6... yes the I4 get's slightly better miles to the gallon, but considering the huge difference in power output between the 4 and 6, the 6 is more fuel efficient... i mean we're talking a difference of about 110hp for maybe 2-3 more miles to the gallon... in my opinion that huge decrease in power isn't worth it.... ultimately it's up to you, but for the best balance between power and fuel economy, i'd go with the V6...

I would have to agree I wished I would have went v-6 but correct me if im wrong arent the v-6's mostly effected by TSB issues? Just somethign to look for..
My buddy and I did math on the hybrid cause the wife and I were considering that as well and basically you would seriously have to own the car for like 10 years to get the benefit out of it but with gas prices the way they are im thinking of making my next vehicle a hybrid

My I4 gets pretty good mileage I can get over 600kms out of a tank with mixed city, highway, and mixed traffic (56-59 liters of gas at fill up)
I bet if i didn't boot it and drove all highway I could get much over 700km
(this is the mileage when the light comes on so tank isn't empty)

I didn't know the V6 costs the same as the I4...
you like the v6, you own a v6, you can afford to pay extra for a v6 good for you, you deserve a biscuit
you seem to always miss the fact that it costs more. here it costs and extra 4 grand. If someone offered me 4 grand sure I'd go with the V6 too.

Highway: Last June I got about 32-34mpg on my trip to and from San Diego cruising at about 75 and with the stop and go traffic in the LA and San Diego areas.
City: I get consistantly 22mpg...
I would have to agree I wished I would have went v-6 but correct me if im wrong arent the v-6's mostly effected by TSB issues? Just somethign to look for..

You're right. I did the same math and come up with the same number. How ever the gas price I used was at $3.50/gallon (I did this math in 2005 and gas was $2.50 back then)
The 10 years break even could easily go down to 5 years if gas price to go to $7/gallon.
Don't laugh because who would have thought we are now paying almost $3.75 on the average!!!

Wife currently drives a 2.4L 4 cyl Highlander so she's not so power hungry.
