Repair info

Hi Guys,

Just started driving my girlfriends camry. She has a 2003 SE V6. I noticed a few things I would like to get sorted out for her. It's an automatic transmission, 2nd-3rd shift seems to hesitate and has troubles getting into gear at slow acceleration. I looked it up, its a common problem in the computer and I suppose it can be updated. Anyone know how to get this done?

Is there a section on toyota nation, or external links that discuss service on the car? The check engine light came on recently. I hooked up an OBD2 code reader. It showed an issue with the evaporative system. Small leak, so I replaced the gas cap as someone suggested on a website, didnt fix the issue. So I'm looking into more things to check.

Any help or links would be appreciated.

Gen5

i have the same problem for the hsitation...i took it in a few times and they did a reflash...and the 2nd time they found out it's the EGR Valve...so check that..clean it and see it improves (i haven't gotten around to cleaning mine yet) don't let the dealer talk you into them replacing it, they said it's a 600 dollar job..you can find the part online for around 175 or less...

When you replaced the gas cap did you clear the code? If not, the evap system will have to perform and pass many self tests before it turns the light back off. I would also recommend not used an aftermarket gas cap. It's very common for them to leak.

I believe the only place you can get the ECU/PCM reflashed/reprogrammed/updated is the dealer.
