Gen5 Door locking Issue?

Out of no where my passenger side door isn't responding to lock or unlock. It doesn't respond to either the remote, or the buttons inside the car. I tried checking the fuses and they all seemed ok. Could it be the power locking mechanism? If so, is this expensive to replace? Any ideas what else it could be? Thanks in advance!

You'll have to take the door panel off and check the actuator. It may have come disconnected but it's probably bad.

If actuator OK, check wiring between drivers door and frame. Over time can become broken do to the door openning/closing.

^^^ Thanks guys i appreciate the replies. Just another question though. Is the actuator a totally seperate component from the locking mechanism? And also why check the wires from the DRIVERS door and frame and not the passenger one that is the door that is having the issue? Thanks in advance!

the actuator is the motor that opens/closes the locks and pretty much IS the locking mechanism.
I'm 99.9999% sure that your actuator is the problem. It is behind the door panel. To check if it is or not is to simply hook up a meter to the inputs of the actuator, and see if it gets a voltage 'signal' when you press the lock/unlock button. If voltage is there when you press the buttons, it is then 100% a faulty actuator.

good luck!

Well today i had some time to take a look at my door. So i removed the panel and by unplugging and then plugging the connector back in, it magically started working again. So thank god! Im so exited it's not broken. It would of been a $170 part brand new!

Thanks for posting your reply. My 2002 Camry was doing the same thing. I checked the door fuse but it was good. My battery was bad, so I replaced it--but still my driver's door lock would not auto-lock when shifting the transmission out of park, although it would work when pushing the lock/unlock button manually or using key in door. When I read your reply, I thought it was worth a shot to take door panel off, unplug/plug actuator. That fixed my problem. If it is worth noting: I took the 3 torx screws out that held acuator/locking mechanism and then put them back. Thanks again for saving me money!!

Im having the same problem with my drivers door. The keyless and electric lock on the drivers door will not lock the drivers door. How do I get the door panel off and check it. What exactly am I looking for to be broken? Any help would be appreciated.

there are several threads that have detailed instructions on how to take apart a door... if you are not sure go to a book store, pick up a haynes manual and flip through it, or try and down load a service manual...
to be honest with you, it is pretty straight forward... generally there are screws and clips that hold the door in place... remove screws, gently tug on door until the clips release... you might break a clip or two in the process, buy replacements at toyota...

when you get all the screws out, and the door panel is ready to come off, you will notice that it is connected via a wire to the door..

in other words... that is the connector that everyone is talking about, try unplugging and plugging it back in... and check to see if that works with your keyless lock and unlock function...

if that doesn't work, try using a volt meter on the wires themselves... if you have power, then the wires are good, if no power, than replace wires...

if you do have power, and still no locky... then you are down to two choices.. 1. your switch is bad, or 2. it could be your actuator

now here is where it becomes a pain in the ass... you can take apart the other door, the door that works, remove the switch from it, plug it into the door that doesn't work, and try the remote again... if it works... then it's a bad switch, if it doesn't work, its a bad actuator...

if you are not sure what an actuator is... google it... wiki it, there are lots of explanations out there...

and someone correct me if i'm wrong...

edit: you can also try johnnyzees method, never tried that myself...
