ebay scam or mail theft

I bought/won a keychain last week and today it was in the mail (just a regular envelope) but somebody has tore the side of the envelope and took the keychain, leaving just an empty envelope. If this happen at the post office, shouldn't the mailman realize this when he was sorting it? Or do you think someone "checked" my mail? I know its only a couple of bucks but sheesh....

Th PO sorting machinery probably tore the envelope and the keychain came out.
The person should have use heavier thicker paper mailing type envelope if it came in aregualr envelope..

Sounds like mail theft more likely.

Insurance with purchase on items is a good thing since USPS has mail theft or mail personnel destroying packages also.
