Gen6 Adding Navigation Question

Does anyone know if you could add the factory navigation after you buy a camry without it? Or does it only come off the factory line with it and not add-able?THANKS!!!

make your life easier... get a metra kit and the aftermarket navi of your choice... fyi the eclipse navi system is the EXACT same as the stock navi system.

You can but I recommend getting the aftermarket navigation system. If you going for those big screen kinds, it will use up all the space on your dash and it will look factory stock.

Hell with Factory style NAV. I simply purchased a Garmin Nuvi 350 and I am very happy with that. I can take it out and use it on city streets and my other car.

Cheaper...just as good if not better Map Wise. Doesn't advertise the fact I have NAV since I take it out after driving.

Yes but wont an aftermarket NAV eliminate all of your steering wheel controls. Thats a major downside, having a bunch of useless buttons on your steering wheel.

Fujitsu Ten makes both Toyota Nav units and Eclipse nav units... we've subletted quite a few of the eclipse nav's out and they come back with stereo controls working.

I love the look of the factory unit but i also went the way of 01d d00d. I bought a nuvi350 and have a bean bag mount that i throw on my dash when needed. It's rediculously easy to use, gives you better trip stats (avg speed, top speed, time traveled), not to mention you don't have to hack the DVD to be able to allow your passenger to input something when the car is moving. And to top it off it's only about $1000000 less expensive (not including install).

yeah, i know they make the metra and a scoche din kit for our cars. I actually have the pioneer avh-6800 with the scoche kit, but the kit is starting to piss me off. It doesnt line up and I have been through two of them. I wanted to know how much the factory navi was because I wanted it to line up like factory. And they do have an adapter to work for your steering wheel, forgot what it was called, but the adapter is only made for I think alpine tvs, for other name brands you have to rig-it. thanks for that link though. I think ill just stick with my tv and get that whole center peice fiberglassed. Ill have pictures up soon for the regular scoche kit and how horriable it lines up.

ok i found the link http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=127SWIX, its a universal control interface...it works for most tvs, as long as your tv comes with a remote control, all you do is install the interface wires to ur tv and program the interface (which is now connected to the steering wheels controls )to the tvs remote control...and ur done ...its works pretty good for my tv...

The advantage of the portable ones (besides being portable and cheaper as someone above mentioned) is that this technology is changing fast, so why install something that could easily go out of date in a year or so. I tuck my portable Navman behind the door on the lower part of the center console, below the AC. It stays connected to the charger which is inside the right arm center console, and I tuck the cord between the seat and the console, so a would-be burgler can't see anything. When I want to use it, I just open that little door and there it is to turn on. I don't even need to move it around to use it, and its always charging when I'm not using it. It lives in there unless I want to use it in my other car or take on a trip.

I've always liked the stock look of the navi in the camry and that's what i'm gonna do, i'll buy it and install it, one of my friends already did it and so far so good, i'm not into none of those ''aftermarket units'', they may have more features to play with but i don't care about anything but the clean look of an OEM navi on my dash but don't get me wrong i own a portable alpine blackbird with mp3 capabilities which i love for the fact that i can't remember when was the last time i burnt a CD for my car LOL, navi + mp3 player i can't complaint but i'm still getting the OEM unit and i'll keep my blackbird for the music purpose why buy an ipod when i already have an mp3 player? LOL
