5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Greetings, I am new to this site...however, I love message boards, so I might become a junkie in no time.
Recently, I have placed a $500.00 deposit on a 2007 Camry LE V6 with VSC/TC in Blue Ribbon Metallic. The only other options we opted for was the body side moldings, as I would be distraught by a wild shopping cart or something else hit the new car. The price quoted to me was $22,775. I did my homework, and feel that this is a fair price. Am I correct?
I have been reading about the transmission flare issues. Have all of those problems been addressed by now. The car is not going to be built until later this week, so it is a late run 2007. Should I wait til 2008, will there be any differences?
We have been quoted 6% on financing for 60 months, which I fealt was fair given the demand on Toyotas, versus other manufacturers. Am I missing a deal?
I would say its a pretty good deal. But I am sure the concensus on here will be "thats a ripoff! You should be able to get it for $20,000 out the door with an extended warranty thrown in!!!" Here is the link to it: ........ providing a link to an out of state dealership.

Manufacturer invoice is $22,204 which is all I would pay but I don't have $$$$$ to throw away.
Kelly BB fails to include the regional advertising spiff the dealer has to pay per unit and that varies. $22775 is likely right at invoice including the ad charges. Given that the car is being ordered, that he gave them a deposit on the car, the dealer has nothing in it financially and you could think he would cut a little off because it isn't costing anything to sit on the lot. At least get a set of floor mats thrown in. Surely they can do that for you.

Good for Fitzmall. This guy is in Michigan. Not sure much is gained if he drives to Maryland to make a car deal. For most folks they don't make a distinction between dealer invoice and manufacturer invoice.

Hey, thanks for all of the replies. Another dealer would not go any lower than 24900 for the same car. I gladly requested my 500 deposit back, and they gladly gave it back to me. The sales manager actually told me that my numbers (Consumer Reports Pricing Guide) were made up, and they could not possibly be correct, thus he was calling me a liar. I will not business there. Too bad b/c the salesman was a decent guy, but his boss was a moron. I guess they figure they do not have to deal on cars in Grand Rapids, where this dealer was located. Their loss. Camry's are selling like hot cakes here in Michigan, which is surprizing, given Mo-Town...But, we are paying some of the highest gas prices in the mid-west.
I looked into Carmax, and my quote seems to be very competive with their "no hassle" price. Plus, by the time I drive to Chicago, I will have spent any money that I dreamt of saving. Plus, it is nice to do business locally, if possible...but I WON'T be taken for a fool.
I get paid to negotiate (Attorney), so dealing with the dealers has been fun. The floor mats are included in our price, sorry I did not add that earlier. It seems odd that floor mats are an option and not just standard equipment. This will be our first non domestic car (ie, not from the big 3)

Funny thing about floor mats. If you go out and price carpeting, it must cost near nothing to make these things but they retail out for a hundred bucks or so. There just has to be huge margin there, so the dealer throws in a set of hundred dollar mats, he's out very little, the customer feels like he just pulled a fast one, and everyone is happy. If they made them standard equipment, there wouldn't be a freebie to toss in to sweeten the deal.

what about possible 2008 model year changes? I am so close to 2008 launch, should I wait until later this summer/fall for an 2008. Are there going to be any major improvements, or just subtle refreshes here and there...or absolutely no changes?

Thanks again!
If you value history as an indicator of the future, the most you might expect is one paint color change. Maybe add the SE grill to the LE.

Old Dood, thanks for the advice. Grand Rapids gave me the run around, well at least the sales manager. He treated me like I was a boy. Yes, I am only 28, and look younger, but I am also an Attorney...not that it means much, but I am not a dumb little boy. I went to the dealer, dressed casually, not in work attire...and was treated like a dumb college kid. I left the dealer thinking that had I been wearing a suit I would have been taken more seriously. All I can do is not deal with them...their loss.
However, I have had fair dealing with both the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Dealers, thus I think I work with them.

Thats a great deal IMO. I paid $22,971 for mine which doesnt have VSC/TC. I also got in on the 60 month financing at 5.99%.
As for 2008, there shouldnt be any exterior or interior changes, except perhaps a few bugs worked out such as vibrations and creaking sounds.

No problem...I believe the dealer in Battle Creek is Sunshine Toyota. They are the next closest to me. The dealer in Spring Lake ( I think it's name is stoopid like "I love my Car" dealership...how stoopid is that?) was rude to me while my Sister and her Husband were closing a deal on a RAV4 Limited on the last day of the buying year of 2006. ( They asked me along to help out with the purchase...saleman didn't care for Dood's knowledge...hehe) So I made sure I asked my Sister's husband as to how many trucks are in his fleet at work. (He is the CEO of their family business). He told me about 150 of them. This was to show that rude salesman what he will not be selling to my brother in law...hehe! Boy, did his ears perk up when he heard that. Top it off my brother in law was writing a check for the whole amout for that RAV4. 30K. Turns out the dealer in Holland ended up answering my sister's questions after the sale on her RAV4 even though they didn't sell it too her. She will from now on buy from that dealership. It pays to be nice even when you do not make a sale (at that time). Treat people like dirt and recieve the "short" dollar...treat them right and recieve the "long" dollar.
